| Is the FID card needed whenever you are traveling with registered guns in your vehicle? |
|
What's a "registered gun"?
If you are operating under one of the exemptions listed in 2C:39-6e or 2C:39-6f, and are transporting as required in 2C:39-6g, then by law, no FID is required. To put that in to simpler terms, if you have your firearms unloaded, and locked in the trunk OR enclosed in cases, and any ammunition is stored separate from the firearms, AND you are going to/from a place of purchase/repair, to/from a range, or to a new residence while moving, and you make no unnecessary stops or deviations during your trip from point A to point B, then you are legal. However... NJ police have been known to be ignorant of the laws before, going so far as to arrest a man for unlawful possession of a rifle while he was on his own property, because he couldn't produce an FID. |
