I recently bought an Allen Engineering AEM5 suppressor, and was looking into getting a bolt action magazine fed rifle to use as a quieter alternative to the AR's that I have set up for it. After doing some research I think that a straight pull AR15 might be a better alternative, as 223 AICS magazines seem to be a bit finicky and a bolt action would require a custom barrel and quite a bit of smithing. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as components for this build? I was thinking of a side charging upper, as well as an adjustable gas block perhaps to allow semi automatic fire if it was needed.

I cross posted this to the UK forum because most of my search results are of UK compliant rifles, I figured you guys might have some experience in the subject that most Americans would lack.

Thanks!

If it's a bolt action your after then a chassis system would probably be your best bet, for instance I have a Remington 700 with an AX AICS chassis system and feeds flawlessly, simply unbolt your existing stock and bolt this one on.
That said, the last time I looked the AICS system didn't have a .223 option, this was a very long time ago I looked though, I'm sure someone in the US must do a chassis system for the .223 of your choice.
If your set on an AR then California was a state that was actively looking into straight pulls due to their gun laws maybe a few gun shops there could help, shoot Bradders a message, he regularly posts in GD and made my straight pull, he'll be much more knowledgeable than me on the subject and might be able to point you in the right direction.
