Hello lads.

I have a day off in London next week, I'm considering to spend the day at the tank museum in Bovington. Is it worth the 2.5 hour trip?

I find the pricing for the train trip awkward as it varies from £18 til £110. Can I show up at Waterloo and buy the tickets at the station, or should I buy them in advance?

Usually cheaper to buy in advance.

The museum is worth the train fare!

Deffo worth the trip, the train will only get you to Wool Station. As I was last there in 1984 I wouldn't know if they still have the bus or taxi system that they used to have when Stanley Barracks was JLR RAC.

Yes, well worth the trip, and they are running the Tiger at the end of March.

Is this the place that showed the Tiger restoration project a year or so ago?

Yes they have the only running Tiger and I think the warrior OPV second picture up green thing on the right was my old work vehicle

Yes, it was a 14 year project to get it up and running in the original spec.  It now runs only on special "Tiger" days twice a year.

Sorry I seem to have a problem embedding my video

Tiger Day 2013 and it's in my diary to visit again.

The show I watched was pretty damn cool. I'm glad they run it every now and then.

This is one I got to see in France last year, but it doesn't move. I did get to crawl up on it though.

I've sat on that one too!  Did it stink of piss when you went, as well? :)

(If it's the one in Vimoutiers, that is)

To add a bit more info, I believe it rolled into town, ran out of fuel and was abandoned, and has been there ever since.

Our tour group came through on the way back to Paris from Normandy. We had hit the Falaise Pocket in the morning and then the tank. Since there are so few of them left, I think it was well worth the time and effort to go and see it.

Yup, well worth the trip.  Spent one day there last week. Hardly any other visitors though, by far more employees. The museum is currently building another exhibition hall, even more tanks on display once it's finished.

There was no bus running when I went a couple years ago, there are a couple taxis around the station.  There was no staff at the station.  If there is no bus, and you take a taxi, get the driver's phone number so you can have him come get you. If you stay till closing without anyone to call it is a bit too much of a hike to the station.  The museum is in open fields.
