Ok, I went with the Nightforce...* A pair of good mounts and the needed adapter to the dovetail within the priceframe of a Schmidt. And it is illuminated
Anyway, the rings sit on the adapter's rail completely straight as an arrow, but the inside is still very slightly rough so will need some lapping. But is there a simpler (read: cheaper) way to do it than going out and buy a 30mm lapping bar?

*Damn that scope is big.......! -See earlier thread about scope choices.

I wouldn't cut corners, you don't want risk dinging a good scope.

30mm lapping kit is $40 from Sinclair. How much have you spent on the scope & rings?
Do it properly.

Oh, I will do it properly! Scope, rings and adapter cost me approx. £ 1660,- so an extra 40 quid for doin' it right is well spent. Ghey or not....
Thx for the Sinclair tip.

A piece of 30mm silver steel and some valve lapping compound from the car shop will be a lot cheaper than 40 quid

I'll look into silver steel bar stock after christmas. Only downside is you have to buy 1 meter minimum....

eBay is your friend, lots of off-cuts listed under metal working supplies.  Maybe the same in your Country?

Even the supposed best brands such as badger and nightforce will show a substantial amount of material removal when lapped properly.

Always worth doing.

Had to do this myself recently.

£11 for a bar of silver steel(30 x 300) from RS spares.

Found it at our local RS outlet web page. Though I think it will be much easier to just order it with our shop manager where I work....
