Hello!! I am originally from Maryland, US and currently I am studying a semester in the UK. I was wondering if anyone new of anyway to get facebook to my T-Mobile Pay as you Go Phone through texting or anything like that. I tried Facebook, but my T-Mobile said it wouldn't allow me to get a confirmation code because it wasn't a UK number. Anybody have any ideas, I'm basically trying to find a way where friends from home can text me without either of us being charged for international.
Thanks!! |

Not entirely sure how to fix your facebook problem - have you got one already set up (in which case it seems odd that a confirmation code is needed?) or are you trying to set one up (in which case you might just need to ask a trusted friend if you can use their mobile to get the confirmation code?). Though I use FB from my phone I've not come across this code before so I have no idea what stage of the process it affects. I do, however, text a lot internationally. I have a skype application on my phone that lets me send texts for pennies. I'd recommend this if it's the texting part that is important. |

When I set up the facebook to my mobile it says that I must text the "32665" number and they will send me a confirmation code, but T-Mobile sent me a text saying this was an "international" number so they wouldn't allow me to receive text messages from it without having an international texting plan. |

This might sound a very stupid question, but are you using a PAYG phone your purchased in the UK? The T-Mobile website says that the "international plan" is available to PAYG users for free: http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-phones/price-plans/pay-as-you-go/international/ unless that only applies to calls? Something sounds wrong here. There is no charge to receive messages so there should be no reason for you to need any particular plan I could possibly understand it for sending messages, but again for PAYG the only difference would be the cost of the message and, as you've prepaid, there is no risk to the company so no need for approval. I can only assume it is more T-Mobile gheyness. At this point I would be tempted to ask a willing and trusted friend to send/receive the message for you... Edited to add: Oh, and just to be nosey, what are you studying? |
| If you can install "Whatsapp" on your phone (and on the phones of the people you want to speak to) then you can use an internet connection to send text messages (I use it on my iPhone and Blackberry), so provided you have some sort of data allowance with the phone tariff and aren't re-writing "war and peace" then it should be a lot cheaper than using text messages. |

Yes I purchased everything once I got here. I think the international plan is like free to enroll in, and then they charge you £0.15 per text. It's quite weird, perhaps I'll just have to go in and confront them about it. I mean I am trying to cheat the system, but hopefully they'll try to help me anyway. I'm under the department of Mathematics, but I'm going for BA in Communication. Basically, the Uni had no idea of what to do with someone who was taking 6 classes in 6 different departments so they stuck me in Math since I'm taking Statistics. haha! |

Yeah, that's not really something we do so much in the Unis over here, mostly a university student is very much studying one subject, or at most two vaguely related ones Yeah, I'm coming from a liberal arts schools and during the application process my study aboard officer basically told me that I would have to ask for special permissions to take random classes and such. It's just really hard when people as me "What are you studying?" and I have to explain Math, but I'm going for a degree in Communication. They get very confused. lol. |
