Well it's just passed midnight on the third day and the money for the car has at long last been transferred from Aviva to my bank account

Chapter closed, garage can now be happily finished..........time to move on

Happy days
BTW: If you're ever thinking about car insurance, I'd advise against Aviva

It's been an extremely painful and stressful experience

Genuinely happy for you mate.

It's been a rough few months I'm sure and I've been concerned about the stress and hassle it must have caused you.

I'm glad it's sorted.

Now..... lets hope the bastards that caused this mess in the first place get anally raped and beaten to within an inch of their lives on a daily basis.

+1 on that. A little more expensive but never any problems with paying out.

Don't go Admiral - they quoted me just over £400 without any no claims saying they'd reduce the premium when evidence provided from previous insurer.
Gave them evidence of 60% and the cost went down to about £360. I complained this was not 60% discount and I was told they only discount the premium not the paperwork charge.
When I mentioned that meant of the £400 premium over £300 was paperwork charges they came back with an offer of £250.
I complained again and they offered me £185 (giving a paperwork charge of about £40 - a bit more reasonable).
Told them I had no confidence in their ability to calculate premiums so what hope would I have if they needed to pay out?

As soon as that year ended I went back to the NFU.

I've been with NFU for last 6 years with house buildings/contents car and truck for business. I really can't fault them. Don't even look at renewal time elsewhere

Glad you got it sorted.

Seems like you have had your share of stress - maybe now you can look forward to a problem free period.
