Anyone else get a nasty surprise from the tax office today.

Apparently I owe £3K in back taxes for a company car dating back over the last 10 years.

And its my birthday today, very nice.

Off to drown my sorrows.

Yes, I too just received a tax demand for the best part of £2K.

Apparently my second employer wasn't taxing me at the right rate

You see you need at least two jobs to feed a 308...

My reading is that they are desperate for cash....  I got chased for somewhere in the region of a whole £50 outstanding from a calculated underpayment against a SA return from 6 years ago back in December (just before the 7 year cut off I guess)... It can't have been worth their time to look it out and chase it I guess... but they did!

I posted here that I got a demand for £.02p

Even posted a pic of the payment slip.

If I wasn't full of medicinal whisky, I'd search for it in the archive

Happy Birthday

Been lucky for once.  Got a tax rebate of £500  - 2 months ago.

I believe that the tax office have had an arse kicking from the new Govt for screwing up people's tax codes in the tax review last year.

Over 800 in my organistaion.  I believe it was a roughly 50/50 split.  Some got lucky some didn't.

I'm more interested in the fact that tax codes were screwed up putting people under duress with big tax bills as a result of the tax review into their incompetence.  £3000 is a hell of a kick in the nuts.

If your hang up is over the "new govt" then fill your boots

I could not agree more.

And it is never going to change while the party system exists.

I would like to see a system where you have 300 or so representatives for the whole UK. And each one has to have lived in the area he represents for at least 10 years before eligible for election.

And all independents - no parties.

I see that as one of the biggest failings of the present system, too many lawyers, accountants, party researchers and academics,  not enough people who have lived and worked in the real world and felt the impact of fucked up, ill considered or just plain stupid legislation and taxation.

Yep.... It's pretty much the same people sat in power (with a bit of shuffling) just with a different figurehead.

Guy's, give the taxman a call, plead poverty & say you can't pay. You should be given the option to pay in instalments, takes the sting out of it a bit.

Andy.
