Just had an FEO visit for my variation - she was expecting to see my .45 1911A1 Ithaca, and .357 Magnum Ruger GP100 pistols which were still listed as mine in the database.
(Both sold >16 years ago and replaced with a Glock that was handed in for the ban!)

They also had my old .303 No4 still listed as in my possession - but not only that, according to the database I'd sold the rifle and then bought it back a second time!! Ironically, it was scrapped and handed in to the police >10 years ago!!

ETA The variation went in a few weeks ago, and they are saying it will be another 8 weeks (at the least) to get it back! Also, I wasn't allowed to hold on to my FAC until the new one is ready as they never do that. (Despite having been told to keep hold of my FAC until the new one is ready for the past few variations!)

If the pistols and Enfield are on the 'database' as still belonging to you, then how did she explain why they weren't  printed in black & white on your ticket ? Seems odd...

Was she new to the job ?

Must say, I've never had a visit for a variation ? Is that common practice ?

With all the cuts in spending I suppose that 8 week waits will become the norm...

She didn't understand how it could happen either! No, she said she'd been an FEO for 11 years - we'd never seen each other before as the areas have changed round.
Sussex always do visits for variations. As for the timing, Sussex seem to vary wildly how long things take....

Mine's in with Sussex for renewal at the moment and they've told me that they are operating on a 12 week turn around! I've never had a visit for a variation from them though.

Mines in for variation, was advised to expect around 8 weeks. It's only been 3 so far.

Unfortunately most of these officers are not gun nuts and it was a common thing for the Police not to employ such individuals as it would not look good etc etc...  However, I think they do need a little help sometimes as they only learn from experience and if we as a group can help in any way it will make our sport better received by the Police as they will be better informed.

I can't remember the last time I did a 1 for 1 variation if they came out, but normally I change the amount held - and they've always come out for that...

I didn't get a visit for my last one for one variation actually it was 2 for 2 the second was a spare slot. I did put in a covering letter giving reasons for the spare slot calibre change.

Mines in for renewal as well and there is some glitch.

Apparently I've either got something they don;t know about, or they've got me down as having something I haven't got any more I can't remember which.

Sounds like they may be updating the system with all the old transactions, or the the new computer system is having a few minor teething issues.

I've invited my FEO around to come and verify what kit I've got so that we have everything listed as it should be.  The legislation and systems are hard enough for us all to deal with.  I find my FEO to be very helpful and I try to help them out whenever I can.

Must admit I'm quite confused by the whole thing myself now.

My favourite Uncle passed away a couple of years ago. About a year before he passed I took him to a local gun dealer so that he could surrender one of his two .22s.

When the FEO came out to collect his remaining guns after his passing; the gun that we had surrender was still showing as on his ticket according to their database. My cousin was a bit concerned about it all - until I pointed out that there wasn't much point in them trying to prosecute my Uncle...

I am with Sussex too, I don't recall ever having a visit for a variation apart from my renewal in the last 5 years, then I had a new FEO cover my area at Christmas time and he has come out to me twice already, once for a new slot in Jan, and then once in Feb for two more slots.  He said 8 weeks to me too :(

To be fair my FEO is very good and has always been helpful. When I was about to put my paperwork in I gave him a ring and he told me to hold on to it and came out the next evening. The holdup seems to be at HQ.

No problem at all with the FEO either - quite surprised how messed up the 'new' database is already though!

Our FEOs in Grampian are pretty good as are variation (1 week for my last one) and renewal (2 weeks or so)  times. We have one particular guy who is a gem, ex Para, no point trying to waffle with him, he knows what's what. I'm not surprised the "new" database is a mess, ever heard of a Government mega-database that's not? If I recall correctly the Canadian effort fell into it's own black hole a few years ago.

I recently moved areas.

Naturally sorted out all the security immediately in readiness for the FEO visit.

Couple of days ago, received a call saying my new FAC is all printed up and ready. I asked when they wanted to check the security arrangements. Told, they dont do that anymore for renewals / address changes - only for new applicants. Due to staff shortgages etc

Mine was just up for renewal. FEO came round last Friday, stayed 20mins, knocked me down a few rounds of ammo storage (I did ask for a lot so they can feel good about knocking something down) and he left saying everything else was fine.
Man in Kent is a decent guy. We spent most of the time talking about Virginia USA as he was going on holiday there this summer. I told him to stop in at Dominion Ranges in Richmond for a shoot.

Just got my renewal forms through. Not due until June but there's a letter saying Herts and Beds are combining Firearms Licencing..... better get it off now then.

Nothing new, One of our members had his FEO out for renewal last week. They turned up with a list of 200 pistols and revolvers asking to check them all I think the new database must be having a few wobblers

200?  Bloody hell - had he actually owned all of these at some point, or were they not even related to him?

This database isn't really new though is it ?

Besides which , who is populating it with firearms that were
Banned from civilian ownership years ago ?? Garbage in garbage out ?

He was an RFD, they were all the guns he bought at auction pre 97 on his dealers ticket. Funny thing is alot of them were compensated for by the ban. Just go's to show they dont read the paperwork fully
