Hi Guys

Just a quick question that I thought you guys might know the answer to.

I currently have a BAR-15 in .22. If in the future I decide to buy a .223 upper, how does it work with my FAC in terms of the serial number, which is on the lower? Will the new upper have a separate serial number?

Cheers

Dan

You can have a s/n if req'd but it's usually not necessary.
You will probably need 3 open slots though for a spare barrel, bolt and receiver.
That seems to be what the plod are asking for these days

Cheers for that Mark

Would it be easier then (from a licensing perspective) to just buy a complete rifle rather than an upper? Presumably the lower is the less expensive part of the equation.

That's bizarre when you only need one slot for a complete rifle,..................I take it a barrelled action won't cut it anymore? Met I take it?

I'm with the Met and was told apply for 'barrelled action'. Then, once I'd done that got told 'we can't do that, it's not on the system' Had to change to 2 slots for barrel and action. Didn't need one for the bolt...

Thanks for the input guys. Yep, it's Met Police (at least I think it is, my FEO is Kingtson). I will have to give them a bell and see how they would treat it.

Cheers,

Ahh, that explains it................................'computer says no'..

I did mine very differently, probably wouldn't be possible now.

When I eventually get one that shoots big bullets I'll go for the whole gun, seems a lot less dicking about.

Do Spikes do them?

Andy.

Thats good to know, at least theres an existing protocol to work from.

Who do you deal with, Sgt Simms or Mr Matthews?

I was wondering about this also..

I've probably got this wrong, but don't the the 22LR uppers work with a bolt-group conversion (the CIENER type kits) that provides a .223rem adapter fitting that goes into the standard 223 chamber ?

Are the barrels then cut for .22 or .223?  Accuracy on the latter would be worse, how much though?

What would then stop someone from fitting a .223 bolt and using it (putting aside the legalities of doing so for a moment)?

If that is the case, the I guess you'd be better off getting a slot for a .223 with a 'bolt action' for a 22LR ?

I'm certainly no expert, but as far as I am aware my existing rifle upper is a dedicated 22, built purely for that purpose, rather than a conversion like Ceiner.

I'm prepared to stand correct if I'm talking a load of bollocks.

A dedicated .22 upper is just that. It has a barrel and chamber cut for .22LR.

To use a Ceiner conversion with the 'chamber adapter' you'd have to have a .223 and a .22LR conversion on your ticket as the barrel & chamber they are used with are cut to .223 spec's...

Ah, OK makes sense. Accuracy very much worse with Ciener type ?
