I thought it was a sect of judaism. I don't get why it's offensive. It's only like calling an Englishman a Scotsman...... not exactly offensive and certainly nothing to get all butthurt and whiney over. I'm very surprised that site staff have taken the decision they have though..... normally the quality of moderation on ARFCOM is exceptional, but I think that unless bot Vito and his portagonist have both received comparable punishments then the ruling seems to be very harsh, but that's just my opinion and is not meant as a call out. Hopefully the dust will settle, the 4 wheeler will man the fuck up and the Mods will be able to unlock Vito and we can put it all behind us. Dunno if it will help the mods but maybe these things could be considered if they decide to look again at Vito's situation. Maybe the context of the word is different over here?..... I don't really know. |

So basically - some idiot was making ridiculous comments over a mass shooting and then got all hurty feelings when Vito made him look stupid?
Was his mommy not available to dry his tears and read him a nice bedtime story? Was his teddy bear not close enough to hand to soothe his little tantrum. If you can't take it then you probably shouldn't try and dish it out. Did he perchance submit one of these?

Sucks.
I did not always agree with everything he posted but he was one of the board's most knowledgeable posters, and very likable guy. This place will not be the same without him. Can't say I am surprised though. The board's Al Sharptons have been trying it for a while. |

People come here because they think its relatively easy going and you can speak your mind because everyone is man enough to not get all bent out of shape and take it for what it is, which is the internet....that's all. If you can't handle it, then don't step into the ring. If being a nay-sayer about the way that Israel sometimes reacts make you a jew-hater or anti-semitic or whatever these opposing opinions say, then so be it. Whichever way you cut it Israel is a young nstion and sometimes they fuck up, as do all nations. Free speech and open debate has long been the characteristic of ARFCOM. Andy has overstepped the mark on several occasions, of that there is no doubt and he will admit it........ but that just indicates passion, and than that is why we keep coming back. let me say this.. I have had members of this site hack my photobucket and post pics of my family and friends, some of whom were veterns, in a pit thread. There were no bans, I didnt whine, I could care less about "punishing" some faceless scumbag out there in internetland. For about a week there at the end Vito posted some pretty immflamatory shit.....I vehemently disagreed with him about almost every bit of it. but you could tell he atleast could argue his point of view. I want Vito back. we dont need to coddle all the butt hurt folks around here. If they cant handle a little verbal back and forth, then they should be the ones to STFU and GTFO. |

The literary jousting and discourse that goes in on some of these threads is both interesting and educational. If people can't take that then they should stay away and post elsewhere. It's the internet FFS, not a matter of life and death..... people need to get things in perspective. I didn't see a lot of what he posted in other thread towards the end, but I do know that the inflammatory stuff was being said by both sides....with one side enjoying the prolific use of the report button. Had a chat with Vito the other day and it seems that there have been hundereds of reports against him in a concentrated effort to get him banned. I just think that's spiteful and bloody pathetic. I've read a lot of the threads where this stupidity tends to lurk. The thing with Vito is that he has spent a lot of time in that part of the world and knows the history and the politics behind it. That meant that those Israel-Firsters who engaged with Vito in discussion without an open mind usually got their assess handed to them. Naturally, because they believe they can do no wrong, the only way to win back the argument was to report Vito for some minor infringment and get the thread locked. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come or ARFCOM will lose most of the colourful characters that make this such an interesting forum, and anyone else will leave. It's going to get to a point where the only people left will be pro-Israeli, bible thumping intollerant right wing religious extremists and anyone who doesn't accept their totallitatian views will be labelled, an "anti-semite", "terrorist sympathiser". The neutering of opinion and free speech is not what I thought ARFCOM was about. |
