So I've saved up my pocket money and have finally emailed the resident gun plumber my wish list for a .223 but the next question is the scope...

It goes without saying the S&B ShortDot is the dogs danglies and it's on my list of things I'm saving my pennies for next but my budget just isn't going to stretch to that right away...  So I need an alternate choice, I'm planning on shooting CSR, I generally prefer that style of shooting, tho I'm not sure which optics class to go in or or what to do scope wise given that S&B is out of my range right now.

This seems like a pretty good option but, the same as every other similar scope I've managed to find, it's not got target turrets so adjustment between distances isn't a practical option.

So do you guys adjust between distances or do you just aim off?  Does anyone know of a similar scope with target turrets?  And what other slightly more budget friendly than the S&B options have you guys seen?

TIA

See if you can find a Simmons Whitetail 1.5-5x20, they are a pretty decent scope for under £100.

Most adjust the scope for each distance, unless using an ACOG with built-in BDC ret for example.

I know a couple of ex-forces shooters who use a 300 yard zero then aim off.

You don't need an S&B for CSR,....Do buy a half decent optic though that will hold zero and offer repeatable adjustment, then turn up and shoot !

I've got two 30mm tubed Hawke Endurance 1.25-4.5x26IR. Obviously they're not in the same league as the S&B but I bet they're more than a match for the Millett.

They're supposed to retail at £299 but most places seem to knock them out at £249. (I paid a little less than that for my first one). At that sort of money they're about what you'd expect.

They're now on offer at £149!

They're a serious bargain at that price!

Do be aware though that they do not have a true "red dot" - it's just an illuminated reticle masked down to produce an illuminated dot. You can't see it in broad daylight.

I've got no experience using one on a .223 though, mine are for .44 gallery rifle and target shotgun (solid slug) so I don't adjust up and down for distance - I just change my point of aim.
