YouTube Link to flooding in Cockermouth
Worst flooding ever seen up here..... |
|
Bad do up there.
Serious downpours. Anybody who lives in low lying areas..... this is a link you may want. Environment Agency There is a lot of information of how to get the latest on flood warnings and up to date info on the risks in your area. The EA can't stop the flooding but can provide warnings to allow people at risk to take what precautions they can. There's a lot of investment in flood defence but with so many properties built on flood plains it's a massive task and the EA can't provide protection for everyone immediately. Bunnyassassin, I'm sorry to hear that your mates are affected. I hope they can recover quickly. The Carlisle floods were bad enough, I hope this is more localised but still feel for those affected.

Spoke to most affected, they are with family etc... my door is open as always, but most are wanting to stay near their places.... fair call... Floods surpass Carlisle by far.... from what I can see.... Cockermouth and Keswick will take months to recover.... Second YouTube link Red line is about 2 foot deep on Main Street

Blimey.
the confluence of the Cocker and the Derwent never did have huge capacity...... Looks like the banks have been overwhelmed and with the lake taking runoff from the surrounding catchment, flows are showing no letup soon[:// If the rain stops then throughflow and overland attrition should help reduce the flood occurence..... but the damage is still done. Sorry to see it. |

Second major bridge will collapse sometime through the night.
Just been speaking to the police and the Seaton road bridge has dropped by over 2 foot in places and will more than likely collapse through the night. At the moment there is no way out of the county from Workington as they have shut the A66 again and going south to Barrow is out due to road closures.
