Spent the day reading int reports on Taliban tactics they are not the simple tribesmen the press portray. they are a well disciplined experienced fighting force capable of taking on western forces with devastating effect they do not fear death. they are not scared of our technology this is going to be a long one. Nick History shows that they are a tough nut to crack by force. The Russians couldn't do it with all their firepower, and I doubt they fought under the PC constraints that our forces have to...........

I believe that modern history shows that very few guerilla / terrorist / freedom fighter organisations have been totally eliminated by an invading army / army of occupation / peacekeeping force / army assisting new government etc Tends to be a war of attrition. And the former usually play dirtier than the latter who usually have rules of engagement to adhere to which restrict them somewhat. Calls to mind an American PFC pinned down by a female vietcong sniper whilst interviewed by a war correspondant. He was asked about winning the war. He replied "Only if we kill the entire population. You see, they will fight til the death because if they have to. We can always go home if we lose. They are fighting for their home so have to win as they have nowhere to retreat to" Can you imaging coalition casualities if the enemy had decent NV and the same world class training / skills that the British forces have ? |
| the thing you are missing is these people have the skills to inflict heavy casualties and are capable of maneuver operations. they operate as disciplined military units up to 400 men in number they are an Army as we know it using complex tactics to defeat armoured units (unfortunately I can't elaborate) were not talking just a load of villagers with AK's |

..anyway I'm not discussing this in this thread anymore out of respect for the fallen. RIP brave soldiers. |
