http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2240543.ece One of yours John? The MoD insisted last night there had been no nuclear security breach. But this is the biggest embarrassment to the Navy since Iran captured 15 sailors in 2007. The naval source said: “Crashing a nuclear submarine is as serious as it gets.” ![]() ![]() |

I doubt it, isn't John driving a non-seaworthy boat, waiting to be refueled? On a nuclear sub it isn't a case of "fill her up to the stops, and can you see to the bugs on the windshield". ETA, Besides the french boat was probably hiding behind a sandbank waiting to surrender. |

Oh damn. Sorry that this happened y'all Steve Thankfully, latest reports say no one was injured, only pride was hurt. |

I sure hope this doesn't turn into a political mess but expect it will no matter the actual cause. I don't know about "leadership" types but left-leaning press will surely chime in. |

There's a link from the above story to a near-miss between a Tucano and a Tornado.
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/campaigns/our_boys/article2240203.ece Damn, that's close. I do wonder at the radar quality seeing as the fightergator was studying it so closely. Lucky the Tornado passed underneath and not this close over the top - scratch one Tucano. I've flown about 1 minute behind two Tornadoes and that was a roller coaster ride, they really mess up the air. ETA Link added. ETA Link corrected |

Quoted: Waiting for a briefing on the subject, but I probably won't be able to tell you chaps anything other than the rumours in the press. Plausible deniability Plausible deniability refers to the denial of blame in loose and informal chains of command where upper rungs quarantine the blame to the lower rungs. ![]() |

Oh damn. Sorry that this happened y'all Steve Thankfully, latest reports say no one was injured, only pride was hurt. That's the important bit. It was potentially a massive blue-on-blue but it worked out OK apart from dented steel and pride. Let's hope the enquiries establish why millions of pounds and euros of electronics seem to have been less effective than one might have hoped.

If they couldn't detect each other, then surely millions of pounds (and Euros) of electronics & stealthy submarine design did what they were supposed to extremely well... |

If they couldn't detect each other, then surely millions of pounds (and Euros) of electronics & stealthy submarine design did what they were supposed to extremely well... The stealthy submarine design clearly worked, my point was why did two (presumably) different detection systems apparently not work to pick up a bloody great lump of steel in time to avoid it? I don't know of an electronic system to mask the noise created by a submarine under way but effective detection systems have been around for a while now. There again we don't know what was going and possibly won't be told. They may have been aware of each other, even exercising together and just slipped up. |

Over here, there's no fuss (so far) from libs and/or greenies. Our news folks seem to be relying upon input from yours and that's just fine. In my area, local news agencies are posting based upon this AP story: http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/E/EU_BRITAIN_SUB_COLLISION?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=HOME I'm delighted that my initial concern (okay - fear) was unfounded and that all aboard are safe. Thanks for tolerating my invasion of your forum. Steve |

Maybe both subs had women at the helm ? nan, must have been blokes. If women were at the helm, they would have stopped and asked directions.
Many thanks Mark - I have not laughed that much in ages !!!
