Ho hum - the rumours are we're going to lose 10-15% of our workforce shortly. So I looked at the legal minimum redundancy pay and it all got kind of depressing when you notice that the weekly wage cap for the calculation is less than I was earning 15 years ago.
If the axe does fall I think I'll give up the whole 'work hard and get payed for results' thing and get a government job that I can hibernate in and spend more time going to the range |

As long as redundancies haven't been announced then you can apply for this:
Lifestyle Insurance It's certainly worth considering if you think that you might be in danger... |
Here things are getting bad too, heard on the news yesterday that a printers that went bankrupt last year are ordering their 40 or so ex-employees to repay the last three months wages that they were paid .
I was at one of our other plants yesterday and the guy who I deal with informed me that he only has another three or so months then he'll be getting laid off, and that some estate agent was given a guided tour through the facility at the beginning of the week. On Monday our department heads were all called in for a meeting due to us having less than 20% of the workload that we did a year ago I wish us all luck. Tony |

I was made redundant 2 years ago, and things are certainly worse now.
The company I now work for made 150 or so redundant a few months ago. Tony - Whats the story with employment law in Germany ? I seem to remember that it was a little difficult for companies over there to shed staff ? ? Hang on everyone...we're in for a bumpy ride |

I have heard some outrageous things recently but that is beyond absurd. |

The situation in Germany has gone from bad to worse, I used to think that Germany's system was the most stable and secure in the world, not any more. The health care system was second to none on the basic Gesetzlichen Krankenversicherung, (Medical Insurance), but now it's rubish, you have to pay for a load of the stuff that used to be free, and as of the first of January a lot of Doctors want you to pay yourself and your supposed to re-claim the money from your medical insurers, which they won't pay.
There is a legal loop hole apparently and they can do it under certain circumstances, if you refuse to pay, they take it to court and have the Bailiffs collect the money off you or take your property instead. We haven't reached the bottom of the hole that we have had dug for us by our oh so clever leaders. I'm almost of the opinion that the only way out is WW3, but that's just my humble opinion. At least then in the aftermath everybody starts from scratch, all old debts and financial problems will be nil and voided. Wag the dog, coming to a continent near you, soon. Tony |

Bradleyarms.com may be about to go full time ![]() Does that mean my new rifle will be ready at the end of the month? Thankfully I have one of those safe local council jobs, so unless I am a real idiot I should be safe. Sorry to hear about other peoples worries though. |

The wife is employed by the local government at a ministry for hot dogs or something like that. So that'll mean that at least one wage will be coming in if things go tits up. Tony |

Redundancy Its not good my girlfreind got made it twice last year and just about managed to get a new job before x mass thank fuck so good luck to any of you guys off here that get it aswell W Redundancy: it's not good. I have been there several times. I have to say that I have managed to get through the trauma each time: it's not easy, it does not get easier as you get older. But each time I somehow found a better job on the other side. The last time I copped it was the end of a childhood dream and 25 years in aviation engineering. l now work in the oil and gas industry and my only regret is that I did not get here sooner. However, it's turbulent times for us all and I don't know what my future holds any more than any of you guys do. Good luck to you all and keep the faith if it is you who gets the shitty end of the stick this time around. My thoughts are with any of you who get that call you don't want. |

2009 is going to be a tough year, the pressure is on for me as well. Don't know if I'll have a job over the coming months. That'll teach me for getting a job in finance!
Still, times like these whilst bleak never last forever and sometimes present new opportunities. Keep your heads down and good luck all. |

I just wish that my company could apply for and get the sort of bail out package that the Banks of this world have been offered by their respective governments, when the going gets tough.
Money is power, it is issued by governments and represents wealth, when that money is worthless bad things start to happen. Tony |

Yesterday at work I was informed that the other driver and myself are the only people that the short working week will not be affecting, and I was so looking forward to paid time off, the Arbeits Agentur (Employment exchange) catches your loss of earnings, which would mean that I'd still get paid my wage minus about 11% for working a whole lot less hours. As I'm off to Hospital for an operation in the middle of February it doesn't really make a lot of difference.
Hopefully I'll be all healed up and back at work in no tome at all. Tony |
