A guy at our club yesterday was using a Fazakerley Lee Enfield No 4 mkII 1942
With 2 groove rifling. He was using some HXP and MK 7 ball no problems.

He then switched to Privi Partizan. Every round hit the target sideways.

Anyone explain. ?????

NO, but we once had a guy on my local range with a box of the said ammo in .222 rem and his was doing the same, with the added novelty of the bolt never quite closed fully on the ammo and he needed a mallet to open it after every shot......

Needless to say, Privi ammo is at the bottom of the list of ammo that I'd buy.

I never got good results with Privi Partizan in my No4.  I have not seen the target impact, as never went down to the butts when shooting it, but my sight elevation always had to be about 100yrds higher shooting it and often would get strange flyers.

I think Privi Partizan make terrible .303 rounds.

I have used Privi exclusively this year in my No4 MkII and found it to be excellent!

However at 600 plus yards it does leave something to be desired and I have now returned to handloads for all target 303 matches, having recently bought an RCBS case trimmer my output of 303 loads for service rifle matches has increased so it will be interesting to see how they fare against the Privi, I did notice when I first started using it that it was somewhat "hotter" than HXP or the FNN? that was out there.

Crap batch possibly?

Just a thought, do Privi Partizan use .311 heads or do the use .308?

Thats something I have just been discussing with the guy who has the rifle,
He has been preety spooked by the incident, more from a saftey point of view,
and is going to take some Privi apart and do some measuring.

Thanks for that

I've used Privi 303 in my SMLE, no real complaints with the ammo but the ballistics don't seem to match that of the original service loads. (lower velocity ?)

The barrel's probably f**ked and in need of replacement.
Privi's are 180gn IIRC and HXP is 174 me thinks.

My carbine barrel died a couple of years ago. Totally stopped shooting 62gn bulets. Had them going sideways and everything. It still shot lighter bullets into teeny weeny groups though.
Upon hacksawing the barrel along it's length we found that the first 3 inches or so of rifling had totally gone.

Someone needs to gauge the barrel and suss it out.

Enfield barrels don't cost much so it's no biggie

My SMLE likes Prvi stuff, it's done well out to 600 yards.

Yeah but maybe your barrels not f**ked.

If the bullets are tumbling, it's because they're not stabilising

I wonder if the Prvi bullets are boat-tailed, I remember reading that BT bullets perform poorly in worn bores...

I've never had any joy with prvi ammo. Wouldn't chamber in my ruger .243, couldn't close bolt, and very tight to chamber in a remmy 700 our esteemed gunplumber has made today. old proverb pay peanuts - get monkeys

The Privi is .311 174 gr but it is also Boat tailed not flat base like the Mk 7 ball.

Don't know if this has any bearing ??

As above, I've read on several Enfield sites that boat-tailed bullets are much worse than flat base in worn bores...

Maybe only because it will have a shorter bearing surface.

The best thing he could do is burn the woodwork to keep warm in the winter, scrap the metal parts and use the scrap money as a deposit on an AR15 (which is why we're on this site after all) and not worry about .303 Privi any more
