I was enjoying a well earned bacon & egg sarnie after shooting a PSG match at Worcester Norton on Saturday, when I spied a copy of Guns Review magazine. (Jan 1986 - 75p!)

The ads inside the mag certainly made for interesting reading....with exotic toys no longer available to us

I wonder if they ever sold any SA80's before the ban ?

Highfield Guns - A shop I used to frequent on a Saturday morning as a kid....

I never realised the SA80 was available to the gun-buying public...

thanks, that was interesting, FALs for as low as 195 quid. I'm putting some copies of shotgun news away, if that communist 0bama gets in we're likely facing the same future here.

I have loads of Guns Reviews, back into the 70's if anybody wants any

I have that copy aswell.

They do make intereting reading, especially from the political point of view.

The SA80 certainly was available then from certain dealers, I know of one that went to Norway at the time, but just look at the price and remember that was 1986, thats the reason not many went in to civvi ownership.

Witshire was a cracking gun shop ( well basement ) , spent a lot of money down there in the 80's. Good times.

Didn't they get screwed by Wiltshire police resulting in their closure?

What were the SA80's available in....were semi-auto's still legal at that point?

Interesting thread by the way....I've not seen any of these ild mags for ages.

I bought my L1A1 from Highfield Guns as per the advert, I think I paid £325 in 1985, although they are advertised at £350.

IIRC Highfield were caught out being creative with the compensation scheme following the semi-auto ban.

A WNSC member bought a MG34, converted to semi auto only, (you were allowed to do that those days ) from Highfield Guns.  It sometimes went full auto

Yup, a chap in a club I used to go to had a .303 Bren which had been converted.
