No, it came like that.... hence the question! Mousegunner noticed it and having seen his (need ladders to wipe out) pair..... I tend to agree with his description...

Those are 650's I do the 2 stage loading process, although like most others, I hand prime (you just don't get the correct feel on the machine. I use Redding dies. A bushing neck die with decapper and then a small base body die Then seat a Redding bullet seating die. The seating and neck dies are both micrometer adjustable. I don't use the low powder sensor, good idea but too much aggro with the small case mouths on .223. Mk1 eyeball suffices for me Don't crimp either For trimming, I use a Gracey electric trimmer. It trims as well as inside and outside chamfers in one go |

2 stage reloading here. First run through for deprime & sizing. Cases are then tumbled and primed (with a hand prime tool). Second run through for powder, bullet & crimp. I have Dillon carbide decap/sizing die, Dillon electric trimmer that mounts on the press (not used every load), then an RCBS small base die. Redding micrometer bullet seating die, then a Lee factory crimp die. I use the Dillon low powder sensor die - mainly because I've got one, rather than it being very good! |
I just wanted to small base size my cases for reliability. Don't know if it helps, but it works for me and I'm in no rush to change my set-up You didn't used to be able to get a full length/small base die. Don't know if you can now. You still need to lube |

All in one run for me for .223 . ( mind you if I ever need to trim cases , which is rare, I do that by hand first. Lee trimmer - under £10) Full length size with a redding S bushing die, dillon powder die, forester competition seater die ( did use a redding micrometer one but the seating stem didn't like compressed loads and eventually splayed slightly at the end cutting a ring in the bullets), and just a kiss with a redding taper crimp die to finish off ( though not really necessary if you have the right size neck bushing in your S bushing die.) You can get Redding to make you a small base S bushing die for quite a reasonable price by the way but it's not an off the shelf item. ETA. the non S bushing small base full length die complete with decapping pin and neck expander ball is an off thre shelf item at around $30 |
Yes - first die is a full length sizer that decaps, and the second is the small base die (which doesn't touch the shoulder or decap). I was finding there was a small bulge at the base of the cases before I started using the small base die. Can't say it it was causing any additional strain on the cases or any feeding/extraction issues - but it's not there now, so I figure thats got to be better! |
You appear to have loaded just enough... Is The Old One bringing you more powder? |
