In these beleaguered times I would like to report that the Glevum Range, currently airgun, archery and .22 rimfire only, is seriously considering upgrading to pistol calibre in a bid to attract more members and wider disciplines. If pursued the final result will probably be @6 lanes at 25m(indoor). Anyone with gallery rifle/pistol calibre experience have any suggestions on reactive targets other than paper in frames that can be shot indoors in lanes? Also, anyone suggest any shooting sites I can go to to spread the word in the local area (Gloucestershire & surrounding counties) to see how much interest there might be? |

We are aware there will be cost involved but the good news is that the range was actually built as a full-bore pistol range and finished, ironically, in 1997. Following the ban the front baffle was removed but it is otherwise intact. The range inspector blokey was in last week and was quite enthusiastic about the possibilities of restoring it to pistol calibre. We already have backstops and extractor fans. He specifically mentioned an intake fan at the firing point s to create a positive through draught, re-surface part of the floor and not much else. The backstop construction means we are likely to be restricted to shooting lanes rather than across the whole width, hence my enquiry for more interesting targets. We are just trying to canvass potential users to make it worthwhile. |

I'm in Glocestershire and although I don't currently shoot .22 except at furry animals I might be persuaded to do some .22 target shooting. On a different note entirely, have your club thought about doing practical shotgun to add to the variety of disciplines? Nick |
