Phonecall a short while ago from Mousegunner-UK out in Florida saying his GPS has gone tits up!

Solutions are in progress, but I have to admit I am now looking for backup systems / spares for my trip..... Eggs in baskets and all that.... Though myself and paper USA maps tend to part company at the rate of one every 1000 miles or so... ...

Suggestions on a post card?

GPSMap 60CS

www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod1911.html

It's the one I use on my motorbike...have dropped the GPS unit many times, even into water. It's water and shockproof.

Myguide Navigator. It's a Mio168 handheld PC with built in GPS. Comes wiyh word, excell etc and Falk Navigator Satnav, I've installed TomTom Navigator 5 on mine. Tough as nuts and works as a fine handheld PC too. Costs me £200 at ALDI.

Just left him a message on his room phone (that should raise a smile)..... Best solution I have is to overnight him a new mouse from a net supplier....

Apparently, GPS hasn't taken off like it has over here......

And the best thing about TomTom I've just upgraded to? Camera warnings! Thank you God!

PocketGPS update them monthly (subsciption download, but worth it) , with a lifetime membership going to whomever reports a new camera first.....

£2 a month. Bloody bargain with the number of the frigging things sprouting like weeds.

Get busy then, unless it's well hidden you'll find that 30 people have already reported it and only the first one gets the membership prize....  I reported one recently where the tarmac was still wet at its base and was beaten to it by a day.... Council workers must have blabbed...

Do you not find that the Nokia freezes up every 20 minutes or so?  What phone are you running it on?  I have tried 3 different N70's, and am N80 all with the same results...

I'm running TomTom on a Nokia 6600 (Symbian) and it runs fine, with no issues or lockups to date.

I've heard of compatibility issues with the newer N series of nokias, probably best to check the GPS forums to see if theres a patch or fix ?

Found this topic on here

Upgrade the firmware to v5 generic.
Disable POI.
Don't pair the receiver with the phone, only through TomTom.

It really is that simple! I can pretty much guarantee if you meet all three criteria above, it will work no problems.
