I'm eligible for full membership at my club, finally. This means my FAC application is not to long off now. Once I have this I'll need tips from you people on where I can start looking for the (recommeded) equipment I need, for things like a shooting mat, rifle bags and slings, spotting scopes, shotgun cartridge belts for practical shotgun, ammo, reloading equipment etc... PS: Anyone know where I can get those plastic 'clips' that hold 12ga. cartridges - the type you can buy seperately and use them on a belt (the cartridges clip into them as opposed to slide into them from the top)? I'm looking to buy some kit for PSG and those cartridge holders are good as it's quick and easy to get the rounds off the belt and into the gun. Thanks in advance... |

Johan, the 'elastic loop' type cartridge belts work just as well . The trick is not to push the shell all the way into the elastic loop - just far enough that the shells do not fall out. This means the shells can be removed from the belt easier, thus giving you a faster reload. |

Prodec Engineering for the shotgun clips. Unlikely as it seems but they make the clips but only have very large nylon belts left. I cut mine down to size. CountryCovers have a decent shooting mat which is basically the Artkis sniper mat. I have seen them in green/olive as well as black although there is DPM version. |
Johan, The trick is to start simple and build up your equipment slowly and as you find you need it. The problem with getting the whole kit at once is you'll most likely find that you have something that you don't want or would rather have a slightly different style/sort etc. This way you'll also get a chance to see some of the stuff you're after being used on the range and should be able to try it out, and you can make a more informed decission for yourself. If you ask a dozen shooters, you'll get a dozen different answers, most will recommend whatever they are using, well it works for them! |
