![]() Wouldn't mind hooking up with you on ECHOLINK!!! Any one ??? 73, Lion_dog et:sp |
Yeah, but for you to call me would be expensive and ... the very reason of HAM is to build relationships across the world. I'm thinking just how cool it would be to TALK with you all OR some just to BS. Would add a new dimension to the whole AR15.com board relationship thingy. |

Hello Lion_Dog, Considered doing the licence severall time's in the past, but with the MSN messenger and other method's of comm's out today, echo link and RTTY seem a little to much studying to get something that other's just download. I have had over 38km's out of a set of PMR (is the equivelent to your FRS service with 8 analoge channel's EIRP 500mW), walkie talkie's though, reset the squelch and the mike gain potty's and bob's my uncle, Sorry. Funny - the repeater I hang out on Metroplex has many visitors from Europe, one consistant Englishman and a few Germans near the Austrian border. Besides the SHTF reasons as presented by 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, I needed to right some things in my life. In HS and no slouch graduating 16/199 I had an asshole of a Physics teacher and he kill my interest in the sciences, mostly math, during my College years. Going to the HAM books for the science, some electronics as well as electricity made me feel, in a word: BETTER - after having passed Elements 2 & 3 in about a month time. Even though rumored that the FCC will do away Morse Code (CW) representing Element 1 for more Bandwidth rights in the HF range, I will take the test. Why? To "right" a foolish decision while in Boy Scouts to not advance to 1st Class because of the need of CW badge. 73, Thom |
Jeebus, I hardly understand a word of that

Sorry, but I don't speak the King's English. Oh, but thank God, it ain't French.

@ Lion_Dog, The SHTF senario, has to be revised. In NOLA the authoritie's disarmed the populace and left them wanting, while they awaited some devine intervention. I'd think that they would also confiscate any comm's equipment, thinking that the user's may be using it to organise themselve's while planning some crime or other. Please don't burn me on that, just my 2ct's worth. I was SWL last year on the 2m band and a brit ham managed to get through on the Wendelstein repeater using 2W and a yaggi from the UK, the tropo must have been great. One German Ham was a bit peeved that he was so cheeky doing so when he couldn't speak german, (BTW. I'm a brit). I creased myself laughing. They have recently started a programme over here whereby anyone who is intrested can do a so called C licence, that's a watered down version of the ham licence, the user then get's a Delta Oscar pre-fix C/S and may use 2m & 70cm band's with up to 10W. EIRP. Who know's maybe I'll get round to doing it in the future. Tony 73. |
I gotta say they do tell us the HAM is for civilian "intervention", er, help - but governments are really crazy now a days. Can't say I trust them - think 1950-60's and the drop and hide for protection in a nuclear detonation. I mean really, WTF: my father didn't believe a word of it. He WAS saving for a backyard shelter. |

During the Falkland's conflict in 1982, the radio ham's who lived on the island's were an invalueable asset, providing information in realtime, endangering their live's whilest doing so. Today with all of the satalite imagery that the Govt. has access to they would probably be told to shut up and stop inteferring Oh well, let's get back to the AR's, as I'm off to the range ![]() Tony |
I used to be into radio's when I was a teenager. I had a Ham International Concorde....120 channels am/fm/usb/lsb witha 2.5 k/cycle shift switch. I owned a 200w burner and I used an 18ft silver pole fitted to eaves of the roof. (a pretty powerful setup at the time) All the above was highly illegal at the time and this was during the times when TV used to finish at about midnight. I could only transmit after this time otherwise 2-3 streets either side of my fathers house would have their TVs blank out often hearing the audio transmitted too. ![]() My father became a registered Ham radio guy and because he was legit I had to retire all my equipment. If we ( read I) would have been busted for my illegal transmisions all radio equipment in the house including my fathers gear would have been confiscated......thus I retired from that.(Dad's house Dad's rules) It was great fun and I met a few people from the CB side of things but when the UK adopted the FM 27mghz 40 channel system for people to use legaly it became full of asshats so a few of us just used AM to get away from them. Good days and good times I'll get my old man's Ham call sign and see what frequencies etc he is using these days. Cheers Taffy |
WOW, was your dad Marconi?

I had sometging like that, but at onw time I had a 1kw burner and a Sigma iv antenna. 27 ft tall with a 3ft loop, 9ft from the base. It was strapped to the chimney and could be seen for miles ![]() I could get out all over the UK and Ireland as well as Italy on occasion. It didn't last though as I got nicked 3 times and eventually ended up in court with a £150 fine that I had to repay at £5 a week. That was 1980 Mark |
And you were trying to make out you weren't a geek ![]() You knew all along, you speek da lingo, geek-boy. Are you trying to take Target-Hunter's crown.
