![]() Hi all, Seeking local insight. I am planning to visit England and Germany* in about a month and was wondering about the ins and outs/hints of the train system. Railpass vs individual one way tickets, times when tickets are cheapest (weekend vs weekday, mornings vs evenings). what I find puzzeling is it is $500+- for the rail pass but if I buy and piece together a few one ways it is cheaper. Or might it be cheaper to book a regional flight? (just checked, err.. doesn't seem so) Thanks, NM * Thinking fly into London from states, then return to states from Berlin and train in between. |
Whatever you're planning, book well in advance... ![]() British Rail assume you are a comuter if travelling same day and hammer you.... Check out National Rail Enquiries for UK information.... Have you thought about one way car rentals? |

Where in Texas are you? There are 2 daily direct flights from DFW to Frankfurt. Also several daily direct flights to London. It is not easy to fly directly to Berlin from Texas, as you'll likely have several layovers. I'd suggest flying to Frankfurt, taking the Deutsche Bahn ICE to Berlin, then taking a cheap regional flight to London (you can find tickets for under $50 one-way), then flying back from London directly to DFW. |
Already snagged a BA DFW direct to Gatwick. The tues/wed thru tues/wed is pretty cheap. Also found a hotel (says its nice) about 10+- miles away from central london for only L45+- per night. I was suprised it has turned out as cheap as it is given an exchange rate of 2:1. |
Wait til you get to London. A cup of coffee will cost you $6 USD, a sandwich will be $13 USD, and many of the tours cost $30+ or so... From London, you can find cheap flights to Berlin via GermanWings, RyanAir, and a host of other cheap (but quality) airlines. Then you can fly or take the train to Frankfurt and catch a direct flight back to DFW. |
