I'm going to be visiting Europe for a year and wanted to know what the policies are on bringing a handgun or rifle into the country.  I think that I'm going to be staying in France but that's not for sure.  Any help would be appreciated.

Might suggest you post this question to AR15.France also ... Someone from there will be along shortly to assist you, but they are a frendly bunch and are always happy to help if you post questions on their site also...

Good luck with the move...

that will be very difficult to bring them in ( especially handguns and rifles in military calibers) unless you are invited to participate to some kind of shooting competition ie IPSC or others..

you might be able to bring a hunting rifle if you can justify you will be hunting..

Wow I found a site that was helpful and so I came to the conclusion that my guns are going to have to stay here.  Looks like I'm going to be defenceless when I go.  Thanks for your help guys! Can't wait to see your country!

Defenceless against what? I travel throughout Europe by car and go camping, hiking and walking over there in everywhere from cities to the remotest boonies… never felt 'defenceless' without a gun…

Seriously, the biggest risk of injury you will face is stubbing your toe. Come on over and enjoy the place!

If you really feel the need to be 'defended' you can carry a knife or a mace spray.

yes..since guns are very controlled (ie sporting events only) you won't be attacked at gun point ...we like the old fashion way here: good ol fist fights ..our friends from UK can acknowledge
