Not sure if anyone will be bow hunting elk tomorrow, but good luck to everyone on their hunts this year.  I don't go for a couple more weeks, but am already losing sleep over it.  Hope it's a good year for everyone.  And post pics regardless.

Hawk,

Hope you and your Dad have a great hunt in Chama.  My father in law just moved from Chama.  His house bordered some of the Milligan property.  Beautiful country.  Hope to see some pics soon.

Got a buddy going in 34.  May swing up there for moral support.  Good luck all who got drawn out.

Saw a pile of elk today.  3 small bulls, one big bull a LONG ways out.  No shots, could have arrowed a spike at 10yds.

Fun day.

We saw a lot of animals.  My dad had a shot at a decent bull while walking out of a blind setup at last light, missed.

I had a shot the very last day at a pretty nice bull, broadside at 90yds.  Not a shot I practiced for, I've only got pins out to 60.

Horses off an Indian reservation ruined a hunt for us, guide said they will open the gates and let their horses graze private lands.  We had a group of elk near water and were just getting close stalking in and the horses ran through, spooking the whole herd of elk away from us.

It was blast even though unsuccessful.

If you were up in the Carson, there are a lot of wild horses up there.
If you were on land bordering the Jicarilla, those guys are dicks. They will do anything to protect the elk on and off of their land.

Either way, that sucks. Hopefully you will draw out again next year.

Jicarilla.  Near Dulce.  Yeah the horse thing cost me an opportunity, we had wind and cover in our favor, just had to close to shooting distance.

This was an outfitter, landowner tag.

Hi, Hawk78.  I met you and your dad up in Chama.  You know who I am.  You came by our Chama place not too far from Ray's.  We talked ARs, among other things.  Sorry you guys didn't at least get one bull.  Really, you need to get back and arrow or shoot a big bull elk next year.  I'll keep talking to you on the text messages but just though I'd say hi here.

Tinman is a heck of a nice guy.

Yes, we plan on getting back to try at a bull again.  I foresee some draws in the future, probably a few more outfitted hunts also.
