I have an inline that I have had for 3 years now.
I am yet to shoot it.

I do know that there are several different types of bp. 1f, 2f, 3f, 4f.
I do not know the difference.
Oh, yeah. Don't forget the pellet type (pyrodex, etc.).

I have never shot it because it is just too expensive.
At about $1.00 per shot, I have other guns I would rather spend the $$$ on.

I have a Hawken style in .54.  And a Thompson Center Encore in .50.  I shoot loose pyrodex in the Hawken and Blackhorn 209 in the Encore.  I pretty much just use them for hunting, but they can be fun..  The Encore might be the most accurate gun I own, with 1.75 inch groups at 200 yards.

What type of gun did you get?  Might be able to help with some info depending on the type of gun.

I have a Thompson Center Hawken rifle, a Traditions Hawken rifle and a Traditions "Trapper" pistol. All are .50 caliber. I have only shot the Thompson rifle so far and it was a lot of fun. The local range here in town has a special "Black Powder" only day. It is a great way to get introduced into BP shooting. I am planning on attending the Turkey shoot they are putting on for this month....

This is my Thompson Center Hawken:

These are my Traditions BP guns:

It's a TC Scout in 54 Cal, bought it for the scope.  Yanked the scope and think I might want to shoot before I sell.

Very nice!!!!!  Does it use #11 percussion caps or something else?  Are you wanting to just shoot it for fun or work up some hunting loads?

Ya, # 11 cap.  Want to work up a hunting load.

Might even put in for a BP hunt next year.

Long ago I had a TC Hawken .54 that I used for deer hunting.  With a healthy charge of pyrodex and a conical ball it sure did a number on deer!  From the chest cavity results I would have thought I had used a .300 Win Mag.  Presently the only BP rifle I have is a TC .45 cal.  I need to take it out again just for grins,  they are a lot of fun even if cleaning is a bit of a mess!

Hawken .54 and a CVA .50 here.  Retired the .54 years ago and use the .50 yearly for Elk and Deer because I prefer the 209 priming system.  a 295 grain Powerbelt Aerotip slug on top of 100 grains of Pyrodex is very efficient, usually makes an exit hole the size of a grapefruit or larger.

For cleaning, a bucket full of hot water and dishwashing soap does the trick.
