Friiguy was smart enough to remind me of the HTF, so I ask for a favor.
My fiancee was recruited for a job there, so I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some thoughts on the city. |

Overall, I like it. It's a nice place. Just remember, it is heavily influenced by the Hispanic vote/mind-set/culture. Can you be more specific in your query? Just wondering how it compares (crime rates, home costs, etc) to neighboring cities of it's size. |

I was born and raised in 'Cruces. When I left for the Army in '83, it was still a small place. The industry back then was White Sands Missile Range, NMSU and farming.
Now, it's NMSU and retiree's. I still have many friends and family residing there, and visit quite often. As mentioned before, there is a big Spanish influence and a shitload of liberals. The entire state is overrun with Kalifornication. That, and Texicans. As far as crime, it's much safer than Albuquerque. There are some really nice (read "expensive") neighborhoods North of town, in the Picacho area and the hills East of town. If my job allowed, I'd move back down there in a heartbeat. The only thing I don't like about 'Cruces is the heat and the fact that my Granddad's old farm is now a subdivision. BTW: The New Mexican food there is the best in the world. Don't let any of these carpetbaggers tell you otherwise. |

We didn't even consider southern NH to count as part of New England... it was called North Massachusetts. LOL! |

I live in Las Cruces and I like it a lot. The best part is being able to go out in to the desert and just shoot. Not having to go to a range or know someone with a lot of land. I do a lot of coyote and rabbit hunting as well and really the only guys I ever run into are BP agents, and they hardly ever give any hassle. Also the food is great. Growing up here I thought people everywhere knew how to make red enchiladas. Boy was I wrong. Even other parts of NM sometimes get it wrong.
Not much of a gun "community" to speak of but a lot of people own and carry firearms. I haven't dated a girl yet who's father wasn't into hunting or shooting in one way or another. |
