I'm going to be in New Mexico for a few days at the end of July. I have a CCH permit for Kansas, but NM doesn't have reciprocity with us, unfortunately.

What are the laws concerning transporting a handgun in my vehicle while I'm there? IE- Am I okay with it locked up in the trunk, does the ammo need to be separate, etc. Also, is it legal to have a loaded handgun with me in the hotel room?

Any info you can give me would be most appreciated!

In New Mexico your vehicle is an extension of your home.

I will try to find the last thread for you, wasn't to long ago.

To specifically hit your issues....
Vehicle: Is an extension of your property. Loaded gun is fine just about anywhere in the vehicle. Does not need to be locked away from ready access. Glove box, console, etc, are fine.
Hotel: Same rules apply. A temporary extension of your property is granted for rental rooms. Loaded weapon is fine.... and generally recommended!

One caveat: Don't get caught with a firearm in your car if you are on the premises of a grade school or high school.

The rest of the info is GTG.

Not trying to be an ass, but you're car is an extension of your home. You can have it in the car even on school premises if you are 19 years or older.  Keep it in your car and you are GTG. 2 concealed carry classes said the same thing. You can carry concealed in your car. If you car concealed out side your car (except for the school property), you will be committing a misdemeanor.
