I just wanted to have any input as to if it is worth reloading the .223 and 7.62x39 with the pricies rising as they are.  Although I have about 4,000 of each put away but am still concerned.  Is it worth putting all the money in for the "set-up" in the long run?  Any info would be greatly apprecaited.

Desert,

Kinda a hard question for us to answer for you, without knowing more of your habits.  You say you have rounds stored, but generally reloading is for folks who

1) have a wildcat
2) shoot enough volume to justify things
3) want to wring out accuracy
4) actually enjoy reloading

You can definately get set up reloading for a few hundred dollars.  But then there is your time, and whether or not you have the desire and ability to reload.  By ability I mean more than the ability to pull a handle on a press.  You have to have a reasonable attention for detail, and the right mindset to stay focused doing it.

Depending on how much money you want to throw at equipment, you can reload anywhere from 50 rounds an hour to a couple of hundred per hour.  You'll have to answer your own question based on your amount of ammo shot, your income, your ability to stay focused on detail, and your amount of free time that you would be willing to spend reloading.

It actually does not take long to "pay off" the cost of reloading equipment, but again depends on how much you shoot.  An example would be me and my 45 acp rounds.  Realistically, with my Dillon progressive, I can spend a day reloading, and easily have 2 or 3 thousand rounds piled up.  This quantity of rounds will easily last me most of the summer, as I do not compete with my 45 but shoot it most every weekend, some amount.  My cost per 50 is about half of what I would have spent buying it.

If you want any more specific info, just drop a line,

Craig
