Hi Hogs..
Im over here in Texas and wondering what your impression is of the open carry laws in Arkansas or the lack thereof... Do you literally see folks walking around in public all the time with holstered weapons??? Is it your impression that this causes alarm....or have you seen or heard of any stories of problems that occurred as a result of the largely unregulated open carry freedom in the state? Im very skeptical about it and was just curious what it looked like in a state where it was wide open... Thanks |

I, personally, have yet to see anyone OC. There have been several "Open Carry Walks" that have taken place with no problems and the support (or maybe just tolerance) of local law enforcement.
I'm sure there will be some more input from member here with more information. |

There are not very many people that open carry in my experience. The law was only revised last Summer and there have been many on the LEO side as well as the Attorney General that have taken the position that it is not legal to open carry.
We are making progress towards that as an option and some people do OC. I personally keep mine concealed. although it is nice to not worry about my shirt riding up inadvertently OCing. My advise, if you are visiting here, is to keep your weapon concealed ( assuming you have a TX carry permit). You really do not want to be the test case. There are currently a couple of arrests that have been made that will provide a court interpretation of the revised law. Edit for typo's |

What city they occurred in? |

We've already got a test case going. The new law, to clarify, is not so much about Open Carry as it is about Constitutional Carry. As such this test case is about a person carrying concealed without a license. There are several ACT 746(Arkansas law) groups on Facebook where people in Arkansas are discussion this. I will say there are plenty of people who are exercising their Constitutional Right to Bear Arms by Open Carrying. So far I think there have been two arrests. The one mentioned above and another case I'm not up to speed on.
As some have mentioned elsewhere it's not so much the new law makes or mentions Open Carry specifically to make it legal but what it does is remove the terminology that makes carrying a weapon(without criminal intent) a crime. By removing certain wording it is now NOT a crime to carry a weapon in Arkansas, either way, OC or CCW, without criminal intent. Unfortunately there are some, SOME holdouts in the LE and legal community who are holding to their Jim Crow mentality. But there are plenty more who are accepting. While OC is the vehicle by which most people see happening it's actually Constitutional Carry that is the root here. |
