I guess I should watch more local news

Yes, it is true.
There is some local government irony to go along with it. The spill happened in Jason Rapert's district. He previously co-sponsered a bill giving private oil companies the right to use eminent domain for pipelines through private property (HB1042). http://openstates.org/ar/bills/2013/HB1042/ He has also been very critical of Federal decisions to delay pipeline construction through the Fayetteville shale pending further testing and studies. http://www.jasonrapertforsenate.com/content/rapert-obama-pipeline-decision-bad-arkansas-workers. |

Pipeline was built in 1943. 22 families not allowed back into their homes due to air toxicity . Exxon has assumed all responsibility . None entered lake conway No matter how many times the politicians repeat that, it won't become the truth. These are not the Droids you are looking for *waves hand* |

I had never seen an oil spill first hand, so I wanted to go check it out. I went out Saturday and walked around both east and west of 40, and it looks like one helluva mess. I can say that it looks like they scrambled the oil-man's equivalent of the national guard out there, as there are probably 15-20 sucker trucks and dozens of storage tanks along with giant steam generators to clean with. The smell is almost overpowering in places, and it can be smelled for a mile or two in any direction.
I can also say that anyone telling you that none of this got in the lake is a bold faced liar. You can see a thin sheen of it on the small corner of the lake that the drainage system empties into, and they have totally isolated that area from the rest of the lake with earthen dams and absorbent boom in an attempt to keep it from spreading to the main lake body. I'm sure the storms over the weekend didn't help matters. |

Oh the horror! Let's shut down oil production to save the planet from destruction. Let's ban the internal combustion engine. Oh and while we're at it let's ban guns too.
Nothing to see here. Move along. Quit foaming at the mouth. Accidents happen. They'll clean it up. The power of eminent domain is enumerated in the Bill of Rights. Get over it. This does not mean I agree nor disagree with it all. Just stating facts. |

They are getting the pictures of the oil covered wildlife up on social media. The Facebook page is:
HAWK The wife is thinking about donating some supplies and gift cards.. |

We were just giving first hand accounts of what we observed, and were noting that it differs from the MSM story (as usual). If anything I think this highlights the need for a modern pipeline infrastructure instead of trying to rely on the safety of a pipeline network that has parts that were built in 1944. Somebody is going to burn it, and I'd rather it be "us" than "them"... |
| Just drove by again, they've completely drained the marsh and are digging it out with track hoes, though I didn't see any dump trucks lined up to carry contaminated dirt out. They've increased on site resources by at least ten fold over Saturday levels. They're doing good work I wonder when the politicians will stop lying. |

I think the general sentiment here, and it's certainly my feeling, that shit happens, they need to make it right by way of clean up, compensation and reimbursement. The major issue us the lying politicians. |

Fox reported this morning that 12k barrels have been recovered so far. I drove by yesterday and you could smell the oil for about a mile in either direction. Same as Saturday. My wife and kids had never smelled oil before. That was entertaining. ![]() Passed by Mayflower twice today, you can still smell it as of 2 hours ago. |
