| Does anyone have a link to the gun laws in Arkansas? I'll be visiting some family for Christmas and I'm specifically interested in transporting firearms in a vehicle. Thanks in advance. |

I don't have a concealed carry permit. In Oklahoma we have a law that states
"Any person, except a convicted felon, may transport in a motor vehicle a rifle or shotgun concealed behind a seat of the vehicle or within the interior of the vehicle provided the rifle or shotgun is not clip, magazine or chamber loaded. The authority to transport a clip or magazine loaded rifle or shotgun shall be pursuant to Section 1289.13 of this title." A snip from section 1289.13: "However, a rifle or shotgun may be transported clip or magazine loaded and not chamber loaded when transported in an exterior locked compartment of the vehicle or trunk of the vehicle" I'm wanting to know if I can do the same in Arkansas or if I need to change things around before crossing the border. |

Here is a link to a completely commie anti-gun group, but their summary of state gun laws is actually pretty dang thorough.

Some very useful links, thank you. I'd like some interpretation/clarification on some things.
Transportation of Firearms Arkansas prohibits any person from possessing a handgun in a vehicle or otherwise "readily available for use with a purpose to employ [it] as a weapon against a person." Ark. Code Ann. ยง 5-73-120(a). This is the only thing I could find on transporting firearms. I couldn't find any mention of transporting rifles or shotguns. So is it ok to drive around with one behind the seat and have a few boxes of shells in the glove compartment? With the way it will be transported it would be nearly impossible to get to with opening the door and getting out. It's main purpose is a SHTF gun and I may go do some shooting on some family land depending on when the hunting season ends. Arkansas prohibits the possession of any loaded center-fire weapon, other than a shotgun, and other than in a residence or business of the owner, in certain parts of: Baxter County, Benton County, Carroll County, Conway County, Garland County, Marion County, and platted subdivisions located in unincorporated areas. Section 5-73-127. This provision does not apply to a person possessing a valid concealed handgun license. Section 5-73-127(d)(3). I very well may enter or pass through Benton County so would the "and other than in a residence or business of the owner" part prevent me from having a truck gun? |
