I always get a kick out of chili threads in GD about beans or no beans. So what do you guys like?
And I think beans are banned in Texas.

| I can take or leave beans. It must have a ton of chili powder. If it doesn't take my breath away it's not real chili. My wife also puts fresh garlic in it. Not a clove or two - a bulb or three depending on the size of the pot. Once served it has cheddar cheese on top and saltine crackers on the side. |

Beans, sweet onion, ground deer, (drained) crushed tomato, bell peppers, cumin, garlic, chilies, jalapenos, celery, chocolate (yes that's right, you won't taste it but it will tone down the peppers). Mom adds some used coffee grounds but I don't drink coffee so I never have any around.
Add the diced onion later than the rest for a little crunch but put the whole onion in early. And skip the store bought chili powder that stuff is old as dirt and tastes similar. Fresh cumin, fresh garlic, and fresh ground chilies/ jalapenos. Serve with cheddar and a blob of sour creme. Time to make some chili! |
