I just finished my requalification at Stums in Springdale. Everything went well except for me being a dumbass. Seems I turned the pistol sideway when I racked the slide and swept the lane separator to my left. I was surprised at what I had to do to requalify. 5 rounds double hand and 5 rounds single hand at 3 yards, the same thing at 7 yards, then 5 rounds double hand at 10 yards. Things have sure changed in the 5 years since I got the permit. When I first took the test it was just shooting at the paper from 3 yards without a set round count. I think I shot maybe 2 mags back then and it was all double hand. They told us that the requalification was just filling out the form and sending in the cash. Omni |

keep in mind that the "class" is to only get you familiar with the law, and that the practical shooting and "requal" portions are only for you to demonstrate the safety aspects of shooting that you should already know, not to teach you anything about gun safety (although they lightly go over it) or how to shoot someone in high stress situations etc
it's run by the gov what would you expect? to actually learn something? I got mine thru Chuck Lang at the Sheriffs Association in Levy and would highly recommend him. When I requaled the first time, I went into his office just since I was near, and knew it was coming up, he told me to get in the car and we'd handle it right away. I only had my expensive "carry" ammo w/me, and he even fronted me some whitebox. We went out and shot up a couple boxes of his ammo and had a pretty good afternoon shooting session. |

The qualification criteria is a joke! You gotta love people who wanna carry a gun to potentially save their life, yet can not hit center mass at 3-10 yards with no stress. It may not be the end all to a carry class however Arkansas training is one of the better training criteria. It's not the best but because of the training required the AR carry permit is recognized by many more states that most other permits. |
