Purchase my first AR during the gun buying craze for $1100 (probably paid too much but havent regreted it) It is a new Bushmaster A2 Carbine. But what I didnt know, nor was warned about,is the addiction that is involved with these guns! Buyers Beware!! Started off with 500 rds. Remington 55 grain fmj. And it has snowballed from there. Here is a list of items purchased so far.
Items purchased: Ncstar Mark III scope and mount ( decided real quick that was a mistake & sold) China 
Magpul Maid grips 3- 30 rd Bushmaster mags 2 P-Mags Surefire G2 with LED conversion Elzetta light mount Switched Bushmaster A2 upper to a Bushmaster Flat-Top upper GG&G rear flip up buis Items ordered: Troy MRF-DI 7 Rail Troy 2 pt. sling Eotech 512 ( which UPS just droped off!) 
Items still on list: Tango Down foreward grip Rail covers More Ammo Is this a common addiction amoung AR owners and does it ever stop?.As soon as I get other Items in and installed I will try to post some pics.(if I can ever figure out how to!!) Well I better go got a new Eotech to play with!

Just depends I guess. I am happy with my AR like it is for now, although it took me 4 years to get it like I wanted it. I have two un-used lowers with LPKs in them, but they are just paper weights for now.  The only thing I would like to have right now is a 7.62 can for my 5R, and to get the 5R re-finished in Green or Black. Thats in the works, but it may be next year before I get to it.  Got priorities to cover first.

I like the look of the Eotech and and the quick sight picture, the battery problem which is about the only complaint that I have heard about can be dealt with. I have had Dr Optics on a couple of pistols and loved them other than Little ass dot was hard to find on a quick draw. Dont have that with the Eotech. |

Eotechs are junk is a pretty ignorant way to express your view on them. Maybe something along the lines of "There are several flaws I do not like with the Eotech and do not think they constitute the price tag." or "For the price of an Eotech I would spend a little more and get something such as ________ for the following reasons...."
Spreading helpful info is better than spreading hate. I also would not call them junk.They may not be great, they have flaws, and there are better out there but they are far from junk. The $20 red dots you get at Wal-Mart that don't hold zero are junk. (see I used "are junk" after stating an example.  )

For the price of an Eotech I would spend a little more and get something such as an aimpoint micro for the following reasons.... 1: Size:weight:battery life ratio 2: Durability 3: Dependability I've had 2 EOthingys. 1 had ewwy ARMS mounts built it and would only mount solidly on one AR...and not the one I wanted it on. The other worked....but total battery life was in hours, not years. I also dont like the 4 or 8 hour shutoff options. If I want it on, I want it on. If I dont, I turn it off. Seriously....after 26 short years on this earth, I've mastered turning off light switches, ovens and TVs whenever I wish. I can do the same on a fighting optic. Both EOs also took up way too much rail space for my likeings. They are far from junk. But you new guys need to understand that Dan suffers from severe narcisistic personality disorder. If he doesn't own it or use it or like it, its junk and needs to be destroyed, physically or ideologically. End of story.

Eotechs are junk. L3 once had to tell the USMC to stop issuing them because they would shut off in the middle of firefights. One person I know of is dead because he was fuddle fucking with one that went down in a firefight. (I knew him) Pat Rogers has said they're the most problematic optic he's seen in his class. (Pat Rogers sits at the right hand of God) If you have any astigmatism at all, you may see two reticles, or you may see one that will wash out to the point of being useless. Again, I've owned both. I went through three Eotechs before I grew a brain. The ONLY advantage that one could say an Eotech has over an Aimpoint is acquisition speed. And that's only if you don't train enough. Will all eotechs go down? Nope. Is it much more likely that theyll go down than an Elcan, Acog, or Aimpoint, yep. |

You can either use the best, or you can make up horse shit excuses about it and whine on the internet. Appears you suffer from the same thing skippy. Because that's exactly my point. And I don't think it's a fair statement to say that if I don't use it or like it that it's junk. Things I don't use or like that shouldnt' be destroyed. HK Sig FN Fals Rifle Length ARs CZ CAO cigars AR10 type rifles Piston guns M855 etc etc etc. Those things are fine, I just don't like em. |

Dan is very opinionated about equipment. And by that I mean very opinionated on absolutely everything.
I've used both and currently have an eotech on my go-to. My previously eagle-eye vision is going bye-bye and the eotech reticle (which is why i went with it, i like the circle around the dot for up-close shooting) gets fuzzy on me sometimes. I'll probably switch to aimpoint soon. I've seen both used extensively in pretty much the shittiest conditions possible and never seen either go tits-up. However, the battery-life battle is won easily by the aimpoint, that's why the Army likes it so much. Bottom-line, the eotech vs. aimpoint is like the 9mm vs. .45 debate. Personal preference, you really can't go wrong with either. |

On the addiction... I have 6 running ARs right now. 4 in pieces, 1....variation on the way , and there are approx. 4 more right now that I would buy if I saw a good deal or had enough cash on me.No trying to brag....just giving you a taste of your future in the AR world.

I can answer for him. If we're talking about the KAC SR25 type guns, including DPMS and similar guns.... You can have reliable or accurate, but usually not both. This is well documented by the military. If we're talking about Armalite AR10s... If they took SR25 mags, they'd be golden. They dont. They're basically only there at this point to form a rift in that part of the AR shooting world. |

Mine's an Armalite and I agree with the mag thing. I hate it. I did get 5 new Gen II mags with the rifle when I got it. I always liked RRA's take with the FAL mags. (I sold about 20 of them before I looked into getting an AR-10. They were left over from when I had my old FAL. Another thing I like, Dan doesn't )

But a FAL has always escaped me.  But my prediction, and you heard it here first...is that any 308 rifle that can't accept 308 Pmags will be obsolete within 3-5 years. I've got 40 on order and I dont even have a 308. |

We're all going this year. I have a confirmed sighting and of all the fucked-up shit I've seen it's the most fucked up. I can explain shredded, shattered bodies. I cannot explain glowing ones that run faster than cars. The tag limit this year is...staying alive.
Oh and no, the addiction is terminal, sorry.
