Hi guys I was looking in the pic thread and I saw some converted 12s and was wondering if you did them yourself? I just got a new saiga and I would like to convert it but I'm a little scared to cut up a 600 gun.

I did mine myself.  It's fairly easy if you have the right tools.

And right now.

Still have a few things to be done before the new coat of duracoat.

That just screams truck gun.

Do they shoot well with slugs?

Very Nice Shooter. I wish I'd picked up a 12 instead of the 410. I shoot slugs almost exclusively.

but what of the (rumored) problems of the shells deforming in the magazines?

I converted mine myself.  It's really not that hard if you take your time.

I have not heard of this! What would make the shells deform?

i've heard that leaving the mags loaded for any substantial length of time would cause the top shell to deform under pressure from the feed lips.

but looking at pics of the mags, IF that were an issue, it would become a non-issue just by using high-brass ammo, anyway.

You need a Form 1 so you can take a hack saw to it.

I think problem with shell deformation happens when the fully loaded mag is left in the gun for an extended period.  The bottom of the carrier puts pressure on the top shell of the mag and deforms it.  If the mag is out of the gun when stored, then there's no problem. The crimped end of the shell is what becomes deformed, so the use of high brass shells will not help. I just checked a 10 round mag I've had loaded for a couple of years in my vault and all the shells in that mag had no deformation. The mag had been just sitting on a shelf, not in the gun.

if you leave the bolt locked back, it doesnt deform the shells.
