Lordy help me...I just ordered one. I actually went to purchase an EOTech, to keep the costs down. I'll be durn if Midway was out of stock so I looked around and decided on the Aimpoint which is what I really wanted anyway.
I got the one with the special deal with NRA-ILA membership. I've never joined but guess I finally needed too. Dusty you wanna touch it? lol Ah you probably got several already. ;-) |
|
Yeah I've seen your posts about the EOTechs. lol That's kinda what steered me away from them. I was leaning to the EOTech 511 to keep my costs down below $400. I couldn't decide which of the Aimpoints M2,M3 and all the variants would be to my liking. The M4 just seemed so high.
So I splurged and went with the M4. With all the holosights the EOTechs seemed the most durable with the extra material around the glass for protection. |

And aimpoints are by far the most reliable red dot optics around. What size dot did it come with? |
|
2 MOA. I didn't want the 4 MOA dot.
This is what I got: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=971768 |

This is what I got: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=971768 Good stuff, though as far as I know, the M4 isn't issue, the M4b and the M68 cco (aimpoint m3) are the issued aimpoints. It's hard to find the bravo, and it costs even more. Now that you have that, drop the money for a larue mount, and get the magnifier in a larue mount. Should run you about 700 more bucks shipped, but you'll have the best optic combo made. The 2 moa dot will allow you to be amazingly precise at range for a cqb optic. |
|
Not sure I care about a magnifier, just yet anyway. I'll check in the Larue mount.
While I got your attention, are any special tools required to change the gas block? I'm gonna use the Aimpoint on a flattop Bushie. The current gas block has the front sight removed and no rail to mount a detachable one. So if I wanna set it up for BUIS I'll need to swap out the gas block for one with a picatinny rail mount. |

I don't have an M4, I have an M3. I couldn't justify the added expense. It's a good thing too, cause from now on, all my aimpoints will be microaimpoints. I will NEVER. EVER again buy an eotech. Pieces of fucking shit. Cowboy has an old M4, it weighs 19 lbs. \Lol, did EOTech come down to your place and violate you with one? You're always baggin' on them! They're good gear, you must have got some lemons and i will say I've never dealt with their CS. I'm debating whether to get NVGs or an ACOG for Christmas. Decisions, decisions... |

I didn't just get lemons, Eotech has had several well known issues, including at one point having to call the Marine Corps and recall several thousand already fielded units because they'd just randomly die. Not die as in need new batteries, die as just stop fuckin workin. People have died because of eotechs. An acog is on my short list, I hope to have NV by July. |

I'm buying a colt upper from a friend with a Kac RAS, and the basic ta101 (I think) acog. It's the one with crosshairs. Call me old school
Found this looking for the USMC letter. To all concerned:
The SOPMOD Program Management Office (PMO) is issuing this notice to all potential users of the EOTech SU-231/PEQ Reflex Sight, NSN 1240-01-533-0941, also known as the holographic weapon sight. 1. It was recently brought to the attention of the SOPMOD PMO that there exists the possibility that the SU-231/PEQ Reflex Sight made by EOTech is susceptible to failure characterized by the sight shutting off in the middle of weapon fire. 2. The failure is caused by faulty battery contacts that were incorporated by EOTech without government concurrence. (See attached image). These faulty battery contacts are susceptible to wear due to shock while the weapon is firing. As a result, the batteries may lose contact, causing the sight to shut off. 3. EOTech has qualified a new supplier of these battery contacts and the SOPMOD PMO is currently validating this new configuration through testing. By mid April 2008, this process should be complete. At that time, SOPMOD will institute a 100 percent replacement of the SU-231/PEQs that have already been fielded. Maintenance Contact Teams will travel to field units to either swap out the sights with replacements or conduct on-site field repairs. As an interim solution, the SOPMOD PMO is currently testing a field replaceable grommet that will mitigate the risk of failure. Pending test results, these grommets will be shipped as part of a field replacement kits to units that have been issued the SU-231/PEQ. 4. The SOPMOD PMO has ordered a halt on any further fielding of this item until sufficient testing has been performed on sights with the incorporated part upgrade. For those field units that have already received the SU-231/PEQ, the SOPMOD PMO strongly recommends not using those sights until they can be replaced or repaired. |

Aimpoint M4's are being issued, but I dont know to whom or on what kind of levels. I've seen them in .mil pics, and I doubt our boys are spending 700 of their own bucks to get one flown in special. The M4 is a great sight but it does some funky things to the balance of the gun. I'll be moving to T1s on most of my guns, and eventually replace all my M2/3/4s with them when they get a 2MOA dot. On ACOGs, I like the '01NSN but I'll be getting the compact TA33 to replace mine, and fo any future ACOG needs. I am getting a special made '01NSN for my M4 though. has a custom made retice for Mk262 ammo out of a 14.5" bbl. |

I got the M4s and 3x magifiers + Larue mounts for both. The Larue mounts are really really nice. I like the Aimpoints. I can't imagine shooting without them. So much more fun and faster.
I got mine off eBay from reputable sellers. I did this because Microsoft had and still has their 25% cash back promotion going on, cept now I think many items are 30% cash back. So I saved literally hundreds of dollars on the Aimpoints and Larue mounts. MS sends the money to your Paypal account in 60 days. The item has to be new and listed as a Buy It Now and you have to use Paypal to purchase it. I believe there is a $200 cash back limit per item, but I never hit that limit (almost though). I've been buying stuff willy nilly from eBay (reloading equipment, rails, slings etc.) as this deal is TOO good to pass up. |

For the M4s:
http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=160 Get the "Tall" or "Standard AR" option. For 3x Magnifier: http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=171 Hint. You might not be able to find the Larue mounts individually on eBay. I got one of mine bundled with the M4s. it was a little bit more $$$ but after the 25% Cash back from MS it was still cheaper in the end. The same is true for the 3x Larue mount. Warning: Make sure you watch out for fake Aimpoints on eBay. I did a lot of research to ensure I was not paying a lot of money for a Fakepoint. There are a ton of threads out there about this. Ensure it's a reputable ebay seller. Where you located? If your close to NWA and want to test them out let me know. |

I've done the same, bought me a ML3 and a bed cover for my truck off ebay using the Microsoft LIVE discount. I got 30% off both. Ended up paying 335.00 shipped for my Aimpont ML3 I would definitly say to take advantage of it while you can! I am thinking about also buying a RCBS Chargemaster 1500 to add to my reloading gear. |

I don't want to buy the stuff till next year but If I sniff that the 25%/30% cash back will go away before then I'll buy the Dillon gear. |

Whoo Hoo...it arrived today. Got it mounted but not sure when I'll get to shoot it.
Question...this one came with bikini style rubber covers. Where can I get the flip up ones? Edit: Duh! I see Midway's got em but out of stock Also the on/off button has quite a bit of play from the "Off" position to first "On" position. Is this normal? Again no BUIS until I get some kind of front sight as this AR is a Bushy flattop and no front site on the gas block. |

Never woulda thought he'd have posted it in the larue forum. |
