| I was reading on you gun laws and found that if one is on a journey through Arkansas you can carry in your vehicle or you can defend against prosecution for such. Is there any definition on where the handgun can be while in the car? Can it be loaded? etc. etc. I keep saying I'm going to get my TX CHL and now more than ever I wish I already had it with how things are. TIA for any help. |

From what I was told when I went through my concealed permit class, the defintion of journey is up to the prosecuting attorney for that county. The guy who taught my class is a sheriff's deputy and he said the prosecuting attorney for White County does not believe anyone is ever on a journey. Since the definition of a journey according to the prosecuting attorney is a place outside of where you could get to in a day's travel and the prosecuting attorney does not think any place in the state of Arkansas is outside of that area. Not sure how that would play for someone out of state. Another thing I was told during the class was if you do not have a CHL then do not have a concealed gun that is readily available. According to the guy, the "readily available" part means load and readily/easily accessible to anyone within a reasonable amount of time. Take the above for what it is worth since I am not sure how much applies outside of White County except for the concealed laws go. I would call the ASP to see what they say and go with that. |
