Once a year I drive from Illinois to a subrurb of Little Rock, Arkansas and back to visit family and Benton Gun Club.
On 2 occassions, while still in Arkansas, north-east bound on I-40 I was stopped by a state trooper and another plain clothes officer who's badge said something like 'Highway Drug Interdiction' officer. They asked the regular questions, DL, proof of insurance, where ya going, where ya coming from and do I have any drugs or guns? I was fine with the questions, had no guns or drugs, gave them permission to search and i was on my way in short order.

This year I won't have any drugs but i will have 5 or 6 guns including an AR 15, semi-auto pistols and at least 2000 rounds of each, 9mm and .223/5.56. Ammunition will be stored in milsurp ammo cans. Guns will be unloaded, and properly cased with bolts removed or field stripped because i prefer to have them that way when in the car.
Returning northbound I'll have the same guns but alot less, if any ammo and the guns will probably be uncleaned as well.

My veHiCle is an S10 Blazer 4dr and has no trunk so I figure I'll store the guns & ammo at the rear of the vehicle as far away from the drivers seat as possible.
Im going to assume I will be stopped and when i tell the LEO I have guns & ammo he will ask and will consent to a search.

Do you LEOs foresee any problems here?

I'm asking because last year I wanted to go to Michigan with a couple handguns but then found out that out-of-staters cannot posses a handgun in Michigan. Other than LEOs there are no exceptions.

Thanks Much in Advance

ETA: Would it be helpful to bring copies of the gun reciepts?

I know the douchebags you're talking about.  You have out of state tags, they'll fuck with you, period.

Take I55 to US 60 in MO, Go west on 60 till you get to 67 south.  It's a lot shorter anyway.

Oh, and what's this about handguns in MI, I carry in MI all the time.  Legally.

if you keep the weapons unloaded and secure you will be fine. i am an leo and have stopped vehicles all the time. when i ask if there are any guns and they answer honestly there good to go. they might run the serial # to be safe, but you should not incur any charges.  and as for you ducty_c. not all leo are douchebags. it is offensive to the rest of us.....

Damn I guess they will let anyone in here Dusty is back. Listen to the trucker he will square you away. But whatever you do just don't speed through Damascus if you ever go that way. They busted me and pretty much everyone else that goes through that fucking seped trap of a town.

I was heading back from the Chuck Wagon Races and was a little eager to get back and get some sleep.

Obviously I only meant the ones that have a huge persecution complex and assume you were saying all cops are douchebags when you clearly define the specific ones you were talking about.

I thought it was so obvious that anyone could understand.

Let me say it more plainly.

I know the exact piece of shit racist scumbag officers that the OP is talking about.  I drive through that stretch of I-40 on a weekly basis and see exactly what they do.

My dad has had the same experience.

Careful on 55 its THE drug highway, I was stopped by a local state trooper with 3 AR's and 2 handguns and he acted as if they weren't even there when I told him I was going shooting. Most are well intentioned cops but there is the occasional prick, the trooper i mention patrols the north end of I55 in Mississippi county. Hes a black guy that talks like a hillbilly, if he stops you, you will be impressed with his courtesy hes a real good guy on our side, there is however 2 other troopers in this area that are known for being "by the book" one is remarkably rude (visited with him at a road block once.)
Drive safe

For what reason did the officer mention you were pulled over in the first place?

I was pulled over on that stretch of I-40 a couple of years ago.  I was driving my dads 3/4 ton Suburban with Texas tags.  They said I was doing 68 in a 65.  After seeing my AR DL and asking why I had a Texas truck , they sent me on my way without any hassle.

Thanks for the update!  I was going by word of mouth.  I should have looked it up first of all.  Apparently my info came from somebody who didnt know wtf they was talking about!  lol

So Dusty is correct in his stating that NYPD recruits start out below 30k.

Yeah, what was the reason given for why you were pulled over?

Also, when asked, you gave them permission to search your vehicle.  I have a question for the LEOs here regarding this.  What would be a likely response if a person politely answers "no"?   Especially if that person had no warrants, no prior arrests and wasn't being an asshole.
