I will be moving to the Fayetteville, Arkansas area in the next few weeks from Pensacola, Florida. How gun friendly is Arkansas? Any good ranges in the area?

Fayetteville is a nice place but more "midwestern" than southern.  Also lots of liberal asshats.  Arkansas, however, is very gun friendly.

Your Florida CCW will be valid until such time that you can get an Arkansas one.  We have no problems with any NFA items.

You cannot, however, carry a gun in your vehicle wo/ CC permit (unlike many other states where your Auto is an extension of your home).

Other than that we don't have many gun laws.

Welcome. I was born and raised here, but I lived over by Cordova mall off 9th Ave for a couple of years. Be ready for alot more colder weather. The only things I really miss are being able to sit on my back porch in nothing but shorts almost year round, and taking late night drives down via de luna from P'cola bch to Navarre and down through Perdido to Gulf Shores. Man... I really need to take a trip down there. Oh yeah, and can't forget about all the bikinis

Offspring   ---  Welcome to Arkansas.

As a whole Arkansas is rather gun friendly.  Fayetteville being a University town has more liberals than many of the other areas.   Northwest Arkansas is a great place to live.

Regarding ranges, there are two indoor ranges in Springdale, immediately north of Fayetteville.  One is Sturms Range and the other is Ozark Sportsman Supply.  Both have limited provisions for rifles.  Mostly handguns.

There is also an excellent free public range at the Hobbs Managment area near Rocky Branch on Beaver Lake.  This is just east of Rogers,AR on Hwy 12.  At Hobbs there are five covered shooting stations.  Maximum distances is 100 yards, with target stands set at 25 yard intervals.  This primarily for rifles and is usually busy on weekends.

What is bringing you to Arkansas?

Feel free to ask more questions as you think of them.

Steve

Hurricane Ivan and a new job are my motivation. I have been working for FEMA since the hurricane and things are starting to wind down. I need a new job. That and my wife and I don't want to go through this homeless thing again because of a hurricane again. The past 5 years I have lived here we only went to the beach a handfull of times. I enjoy the mountains and rivers a lot more.

I am not too concerned about the weather. I lived in Colorado for 4 years.

Lockman. As far as Perdido, Gulf Shores, and Pensacola Beach. You aren't missing much right now. They are still pretty messed up.

Actually, I would keep the Florida CCW over the Arkansas one. Florida offers a non-resident CCW and it is has reciprocity / is honored in more states than one form Arkansas.

There are plenty of places to shoot on private property, and we have plenty of campouts in Arkansas and just across the line in Missouri. It doesn't get too cold here. Some people find the heat a problem in the summer, but coming from Florida you shouldn't find it too bad. I moved here from Louisiana(after 15 years in the Army) so I don't find it too humid either. It's a bit more "Western" here than I realized before I moved here, with wildlife like the coyote, tarantula spiders, scorpions, roadrunners, and a few other things like that. I've been here for about 13 years now, and like it a lot. I live near Harrison. I originally bought some land near Fayetteville, but moved here after about 3 years. Fayetteville is growing very fast. It is a college town, but is still pretty gun friendly.

I didn't get to stay as long as I wanted to. My current job needs me back sooner than I thought. NW Arkansas isn't too bad. I actually like what I saw. It kinda reminds me of the Western slope of the Rockies near Grand Junction, CO. It is nothing like Little Rock and southern Arkansas (which I find depressing). I won't be moving until the end of February, but I snagged a phone book from the hotel I stayed in so I can continue to check out the town.

I managed to stop by Ozark Sportsman Supply. The indoor ranges looked cool, but the staff seemed to be the all-knowing about false gun laws. When I asked if there was any talk about Arkansas creating their own state AWB, I got the reply that machie guns were always illegal. Either way, their prices seemed fair, and they are only 5 minutes from my new job. Now I can do lunch time shoots!

Good info.  I was just browsing your Hometown board because my company has an opening in Little Rock and I thought it would be worth looking into.

So how about the Little Rock area?  Ranges?  Public hunting land nearby?

I'm in East TN currently.

I love Arkansas because it is my home but if I were already in East TN I don't think there is ANY way you could get me to leave
