Well I have done some legwork and called every National Forest range in the state (there are about 15) and asked about various things including their policies on groups, targets, full auto, what do their ranges look like, how remote, etc. I will be able to post more details later, but if anyone else is interested in helping coordinate such a get-together please feel free to share ideas here. Stay tuned. |
| I would come. Like to meet some other people that like guns and I ain't talking about pawpaw's side by side either. I would recommend that it not be during modern gun season for deer. Too many people out and about and it would lower participation as well. Public land is a good idea because you can shoot full auto in the national forests. |
I have been trying (not very hard I will admit) to ask this question for some time...Who can advise me that Full Auto is allowed in the national forests? Also aren't there designated ranges? or can you shoot where the back stop is safe? I'm a member of a club that does not allow FA. and would be intrested in shooting my FA somewhere cpl times a year... Geo |

Full auto is allowed at all of the national forest ranges, except danville, where they have a specific rule against it because they have really nice target stands and they are afraid that a higher volume of fire will tear them up faster. I spoke with the ouchitau nat'l forest head office and their law enforcement people in Hot springs and its all good. |

No, hot springs is where the Ouchitau Nat'l forest head ranger station is located, there isn't a range in Hot SPrings, which is a NATIONAL PARK, where GUNS ARE VERBOTEN! Anyhow the closest ranges to hot springs are definitely not the nicest from my convos with the rangers but I will be investigating some of the ranges in person, Does anyone in the western half of the state watn to make a field trip toa couple ranges and take photos for us as recon? |
Just rifle range #2 was closed because some lady nearby reported rounds going over her house There are around 10 ( !) other ranges besides rifle range #2 though |
| It's a private range...and the only facilities are a trailer off to one side where we have our cook outs...no lanes per se, ,more of a fire break...but it currently goes out to 560 yards...can go farther, we have shot a Barrett out there...we give the deer hunters a break and everyone stays happy...there are many places to shoot in the county as long as you don't violate any ordanances... |

I live in Hot Springs and have used all the ranges in the Hot Springs area.My personal prefrence is the Pigeon Roost range, its about 20-25 mins from Hot Springs going towards Glenwood on HWY 70. It has overhead coverage, with about 7 shooting tables. It also has concrete walkways to the 25,50 and 100 yard mark.It was built for handicap people and built well. Ive shot at the Mt Ida range and although its not as nice as Pigeon Roost,it has or had a 200yd range. The range on Bear MT on the other hand is just horrible, gang bangers and plenty of idiots. If you have any questions fire away, ive been shooting in this area for 12 years. Regards, Scott |
