I'm wondering if anyone here can tell me about Kansas laws regarding keeping a Rifle inside of the cab of a car for defensive purposes. Surely I'm missing something, but I've searched the internet for many long hours and come up with only a few tidbits of conflicting information, leaving me more confused than when I started. Ideally I'd like to keep a rifle behind me in the back seat area of my 4 door car, maybe on the floor or strapped to the back of the front seats with some kind of case/rack, but can't try anything until I have confirmation of the law. So my question to Kansas members is Can I keep a rifle within my immediate reach inside the cab of a vehicle, can it be loaded, and does it have to be in plain sight or concealed? Any links or info on how to confirm this would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
ETA: Also, what extra security precautions should be taken when leaving a weapon inside a vehicle? Thanks again. |

Kansas law says that a firearm must be transported in a container that fully encloses the firearm. Legally, you can transport a pistol in a Ziplock bag.
As far as leaving a weapon in the vehicle - don't do it unless you can secure it with a lock of some sort. You don't want to be the guy who provided the murder weapon. |
