The guys at the Olathe Gun shop said there was a rifle range not too far from Cabelas. I believe the name is Parma Woods. Anyone shot there? How was it? Thanks |

mdc.mo.gov/areas/ranges/parma/ Guys can be d*cks sometimes, but its just fine. |
| Nice setup. Like the previous poster said the range masters can be total dicks. They seem to get off on barking commands and making people feel stupid. I kind of chuckled when a range guy came down to inspect the line during a cease fire. He made a comment on how my AK did not have the bolt locked back properly. As he continued to handle my weapon with his finger INSIDE the trigger guard I politely explained that this one does not have that feature. Total TOOL. |

Be warned, if you are shooting military rifles, they will ask to see your ammo. They then check it with a magnet. If it responds, they don't allow you to shoot. A lot of the Eastern European surplus ammo uses copper/iron mixes for their jackets, so even if they aren't steel core penetrator ammo, it still reacts to a magnet. It gets busy on weekends, so you don't get a whole lot of shooting time in. Unfortunately, it is the only public range on this side of town. Target stands can be set at 25/50/75/100yds on the rifle side and 7/15/25 on the pistol side. 1 shot every three seconds, no holster draws, standard public range stuff... |
| Millcreek requires a membership to shoot there I believe. Not too sure on that though. I have driven out there and it seems to be a nice place. Try Pidgeon Hill conservation area up by St. Joe. Only about 30 minutes further than the Parma range. It has a 25, 50 and 100 yard setups that are uncontrolled. Weekends can get busy but everyone there seems to safe and decent. |
Yeah Mill Creek is something like $375 to join, $75 per year after that but they have a 300 yard range I believe. I'm seriously contemplating it. I make the drive to Clinton as it is to shoot at Golden Valley right now. |

I've heard some really bad things about gun safety at both Pigeon Hill and Golden Valley. I won't head to a non-manned public range unless I can get the range to myself. Both Mill Creek and Tri-County on the Kansas side have nice rifle ranges. They are both private and require memberships. Tri-county has a couple of year waiting list. Mill Creek requires sponsorship from a current member. And you don't need to be a MO resident to shoot at their ranges. |
I don't hit the range on the weekends (I work weekends) so I generally always have the range to myself. |
I am a member at Mill Creek. It is expensive to get in, but well worth it. You can even shoot your 50BMG there. I use to shoot at Parma Woods, but 100yds is limiting and having to put up with the rangers was just a pain. There's alot more room at Mill Creek and most of the time hardly anyone there when you go on weekdays. You can shoot from 6am till 10pm. 2 of the pistol ranges have lights as well. I LOVE IT! |
I'm really considering it. I mean seriously considering it. You guys do have a 300yd range, correct? I think one of my girlfriend's friend's dads is a member there. I may have to ask him if he has some more info on it. |
