My wife and I are moving to the area , ( posted this before ). She is becoming increasingly upset about the possible lack of decent jobs in the area. She has her degree and is used to making pretty good money in Oregon. Is it really that bad there? For us both to have to suffer on my income for any extended period of time will really suck. |

what kind of job is she lookin for? my x wife, last gf, and current wife all had no problems gettin good jobs in manhattan. they're hiring on post right now too, rumor has it that they are puttin a furniture store in on post and the pay there will start at like 13.50 |
| without actually being there right now (since im deployed) the best thing i can offer is that she should check the manhattan mercury online for employment classifieds, both my x wife and my last gf got decent jobs pretty quick that way, competition is a little more fierce now since they upped the post population by about 15,000, but it still didnt take that long. |

The population is booming around MHK/Ft. Riley/Junction Shitty and many new companies are moving in. Finding a job should be rather easy. Keep in mind that the pay might not be what you would expect in Oregon, but the cost of living should be lower as well. Make sure you teach her how to use a gas pump before you get here, I'd hate to see her sitting in her car waiting for the kid at the Qwik-E-Mart to come out and fill her tank. Let me know what area you are looking to live in and I'll give you an insider's guide. |
| Quaker is hiring for a administrative assistant with starting pay right around $14 with some decent benefits. I started there in last year at $9.50 but within a month I had received a raise and promotion and am now making just over $18. They also offer overtime with 1 1/2 on anything over 40hr and double on sunday if you work a 7 day week. Its also easy to move up with a degree. For example I have a interview next week for a new position starting at roughly $20hr. With some experience I believe salerery positions start at 50-55k. I know Quaker and a lot of other companies only hire from within so a lot of times it helps starting with a lower position just to get your foot in the door. If shes used to a industrial environment I think Parker Hanifin starts at around $10-$12. If she doesnt mind working at a call center Sykes starts at $9.50. Im not sure what type of $ shes used to but there are LOTS of entry level positions starting at $9-$10 which is atleast enough to help out with bills untill something else comes along. Why are you guys moving to Manhattan? |
Well, we are moving do to Fort Riley, i'm in Korea at the moment and my orders were changed from Fort Lewis to Riley for whatever reason. My wife has family in the area so its not that big of a deal, happened at the last moment though so kind of threw me off course. As far as work goes my wife doesnt work in an industrial environment, she works in as office environment managing contracts, one of them is benchmade, got that new infidel at a sweet discount |
| If you want twisters move to Florida. The chance of a tornado around MHK/Junction is very low. As far as hunting, you have no idea how much you're going to love it. The flint hills is superb for deer, turkey, pheasant, quail, and dove. Ft. Riley has hunting land w/ deer and elk. Then there's the fishing... |
check out USAJOBS.com. They will have government job listings at Ft Riley & surrounding areas. Also put your resume on CareerBuilder.com. That's how I got the job in Yuma AZ. Pay doesn't match the cost of housing. So check out the housing market online at the Manhattan Mercury. Manhattan & Junction City are awful expensive, but small towns are much less expensive. But you have to drive about 20 + miles to/from work. Enjoy your stay, Manhattan is geared toward K-State, Junction City's sole purpose to exist is for Ft Riley. |
Let us know when you'll be here, I'm sure we can scrounge up some members for dinner at like the Cracker Barrel in JC or something.

I'm in for that. |
| If your needing a place to live Im looking for someone to sublease my apartment from march 1 to may 15. Its a average sized one bedroom with a nice location. It rents for $400 a month but I would be willing to discount it to $300 if your interested. It would be available with the option of signing a new 1 year lease after mine expires. |
