| Ill be driving through both Kansas and Nebraska tomorrow on my way to South Dakota with a trunk full of guns, what exactly are the laws for transportation through the two states? |
| I dont have any rifle cases but they will be in the bottom under luggage, I usually wrap them in a field jacket or Gore tex before putting them in the trunk also. Does the ammo have to be up front? Ive got over 2k rounds of various calibers going with me, it would be nice to put as much stuff in the trunk as possible to save room in the backseat for wife and kid. |

Shouldn't have any problems as long as they are unloaded. Having them wrapped instead of cased would be the same in my book. Shouldn't be any issue having the ammo in the trunk either. I'd rather have the ammo there than in the front; in event of an accident sure as hell would want 2k of ammo hitting me in the head |
| NE and SD are both open carry states, so if you are traveling with a loaded handgun or rifle in the passenger compartment just make sure it's in plain view. Once into South Dakota if you do not have a state permit that SD reciprocates with then either keep the handgun in plain sight, or make sure it is in a locked case or compartment within the passenger area. Just in a case is not good enough in SD must be locked case or compartment or out in plain sight. |
