Gents, do any of you know of a person who can fabricate steel targets (and who has access to steel capable of withstanding rifle fire)? I was going to order a portable steel target system from the lower 48, but the cost is close to $200 and then I will have to throw in an additional $100 for shipping.....pretty ridiculous for a piece of hanging steel. On the flip side, the target system I'm looking at ordering breaks down for easy transport. Your thoughts are appreciated.
Forgot to mention this is for the Fairbanks area. I guess by the time I paid for something like this from Anchorage it would be just as expensive as ordering from the lower 48. Again, thanks. |

http://www.wideners.com/ has AR500 plates. Some of them will fit in USPS flat rate boxes.
That might be the cheapest way to get AR500 up here there, then find someone to assemble the rest of the system. My dad had a carrier made in 2010 with a 18" AR500 plate through a local fab shop and it cost over $600. ETA: Forgot I wasn't in AK for a second

Friend of mine and I ordered steal from Alaska steel while we were deployed last summer... We got man IPSC silhouettes cut out of AR550... Like the retards we are, we didn't think about how heavy they'd be. But, holy SHIT... It's awesome! best $250 I've spent. I blasted it with a mag dump from my AR from about 20 yards and it didn't leave a mark.

Indeed, it seems like if I can keep the price down below $300, then the steel target would pay for itself in a few years by not needing paper targets.....but I generally just plink at dirt clods and trash at the range, so I'm kidding myself I suppose. I do think it would be a great investment as long as the targets/frames are cared for and maintained. |

We were bored during ramadan and getting a man-sozed target seemed like a good idea. You could get 8' circles cut or whatever. Point of the story is, you don't have to order shit online from the lower 48. You spend your cash here in Alaska and get pretty much anything built that you can imagine. |
