Been thinking about seeing what kind of intrest could found for bringing up an appleseed instructor for a weekend class? I really want to take one but flying down to lower 48, plus carting the rifles, plus driving to the range where it will happen would run over 1000 bucks. im wondering if anybody else sees this problem and is interested in getting 4 or more people to split the cost of bringing up an instructor some time in the summer.

i was thinking some time in early july- late aug(pre rainy season),  but im wondering if there is enough intrest in this to merit sending them a letter.

ive included a link to their site for those who have never heard of them, ( i hadn't)

http://appleseedinfo.org/

never done it but sounds lke a good learning experience.

I have been reading about it, and have exchanged a couple of IMs with people about it.  I will be signing up at their forums to see what I can do to help facilitate having such an event up here, as apparently things have fallen through in the past.  I am just waiting until after my last exam this week to do so.

I would be interested but it would take some work with planning as I travel for work in the summer

I've also looked to see if there was any 'appleseed' activity in Alaska with negative results.

I am interested in seeing if it would be feasible, and productive to have someone come up from the lower 48 for an event.

I work a 2 week rotational schedule, so for me anything is 50% hit or miss.

WARNING the below has been typed after copuouls copious, copeius lots of beer has been consumed on typer's Friday night(works sun-thurs) .

would it be ok to work with a 300 bucks estimate from each of us for hte cost of bringing up the boot camp instructor? im guessing 700 for a ticket from SLC, BOI, or most any other "western port" and 200+ for food ect for a week of boot camp(why not go big, and get an instructor cert too instead of the weekend event, then we can run Appleseed events in AK). im not talking actual money at this poin at this point im just guessing, so as to guess to figgure out the estimate for what to put up for a prospective instructor to travel up here. While summer prices are well over 200 bucks for a week of hotels and food, i am trying to figguree out numbers for a prospective instructor to  instruct 4 or 5 Alaskan/anchorage locals in the art/science of teaching Appleseed,  and proceed to carry forth the great appleseed tradition in alaska(the greatest state if all)? would i be able to get 4 people to pledge support to the week's trainging and allow an instructor to get up here and teach us (apple seed is non profit, thus no money to be made by them... or us),

i feel that this program would be great for Alaska for the following reasons, 1. Alaskan spirit, z(repelling communist invaders..., hunting moose and caribou, and the evil tree moose(ask me later when i haven't drank half a case of kokanee), 2.hunting, i dont like the idea of hunters making 900 yard shots at a caribou and thinking that it has a real chance in hell of a perfect shot ... (dont get me started..)  and ummm haven't thought of it yet...

i need at least 3 other people than me to pledge a weeks attendance to the event AND an estimated 300 bucks to get an appleseed instructor trainer up here for us. that would allow us to get theh class and hte knowhow to train others at the class( attn young single guys there are hot young single babes at these events... maybe... )

ok more feedback would be nice people, serioulsy, that means you troll...

My sober understanding(ouch last night got to me, dont PUI (post under influance)) is that you can get the instructor cert as a basic instructor after the week vent provided you work for the weekend event and get good marks from students. nstructor Requirements (stolen from their website):

I think to get full instructor we will have had to have 3-4 weekend shoots under our belts as basic instructors, so the head instructor would need to be there for those as well(warning cost/mission creep imminent...) . i will shoot an email to the one instructor that i have talked to and see if i am correct.  The initial shoot would be hte one at the end of the boot camp, i am unsure as to when the other shoots could happen, it would depend on our scheduals but my understanding is that they would have to be within a year.

Two paths possible

Path #1 Rifleman Boot Camp or Instructor Camp.

   * 2 day minimum (usually more) for 30+ hours of instruction where they learn:
        1. to run a line safely
        2. line commands
        3. marksmanship instruction
        4. The history and tradition of the Rifleman
   * Instruct real students at the Appleseed following the camp, under the supervision of a full instructor.
   * Consistently score 210 on the AQT (Rifleman skill level)
   * Perform well during the Appleseed following camp as documented on the Instructor Evaluation Form (IEF)
   * Participants that successfully Complete of all the above will be certified as Basic Instructors, and will be "Basic Instructors" until they have successfully complete instructing at four Appleseeds following their boot camp, demonstrating increasing command of the task of teaching rifle marksmanship until they meet the standard to become a Full Instructor.

or THE LONG WAY
Path #2 The Appleseed Trail

   * Must participate in at least one Appleseed as a shooting student.
   * As an Instructor-in-training must study online training materials and the RWVA Instructor Guide, as well as understudy to Instructors at four future Appleseeds
   * Must perform selected teaching duties under the supervision of a Full Instructor for at least three Appleseeds, and, at the fourth Appleseed, tell the Story of April 19th, 1775.
   * Must receive at least four positive Instructor evaluation forms.
   * Must be able to consistently score 210 on the AQT.
   * Demonstrate mastery in running a safe line.

Participants that complete the above may instruct at an Appleseed event under the supervision of a Full Instructor or higher.

Summary:

   * 30+ hours of initial training
   * 96+ hours of actual on-hands experience under supervision (the apprenticeship portion).
   * Continuing education teaching several hundred new students over the subsequent 12 months, initially under the careful supervision of an experienced instructor, and finally, once he's proven - where the rubber meets the road, out on the firing line - that he can do the job, on his own

My wife and I may be interested

I cant shoot with irons very well and this would be a nice class to take.

Is the $300 for the ticket alone, or will some of it go towards the actual class?

Thanks for working on this, keep us posted

I've been wondering about appleseed in AK too.  I'd definitely be interested and have friends that would be too.

my understanding is that the instruction is free, you just cover the cost of the instructor(in this case food, ticket up, range fees, hotel, ect,) and this is just a test the waters sort of thing. Idealy I can get 4-6 people that are interestd in taking an instructor course for 5 days(m-f) and then helping teach a class of beginners on Saturday and Sunday. then have the instructor back 2 or 3 times later same year so we can have enough experience to teach a classes on our own and not have to fly instructors up. that would allow us to teach our own appleseed events as a state and not be dependent on the lower 48.

gettign attendants for the 2 day class isnt my mission, it is getting pledges for instructors.
