I am so sick of the prices of ammo and what little reloading components that are available.  1k round boxes of PMC ammo at Boondocks in Eagle River is $419.  A little high but not real bad.   At Frontier Outfitters in Fairbanks it's $459.  At Chimos in Wasilla, the same fucking box is $495.  That's $76. higher than the cheapest I've found so far.  My son tells me he can get it for around $385 somewhere in Anchorage, but I haven't personally seen it that low.  OK, rant over.

I'm pretty sure that I mentally bitch to myself about this same thing atleast 472 times a day. I have a desk job though, so I get to sit and stew over things like this
Either Chimo's is getting ripped off on their dealer pricing and their just passing on their rip off prices, or their just trying to make a shit ton of money, I dont know.

Yeah, I don't know either, but I don't even enjoy going in there any more.   They've always been a little high and I didn't mind paying the price as I like to support the local guys but damn, this is getting ridiculous.

We have a crazy local shop that bought 20000rds of PMC bronze ammo before all the high prices and now they are trying to sell 1k for $700.

$385 isn't too bad.  I saw $330 in the lower 48, shipped to Seattle.  Tack on another $25 to Anchorage = $355.

Ask him who's got it for $385 in case someone needs some

In a high-demand situation like we've got for ammo & components now, a seller really only has two choices:

  1. High prices

  2. Bare shelves

Most sellers seem to be choosing #2.  I'm not sure that's actually the right choice.  If one seller's price gets too high, buyers can choose to cough it up, wait it out, or shop elsewhere.  If all sellers are out of stock, you just have to wait.  As a buyer I'd really rather know that I can get the ammo, even if it costs more, than having it be totally unobtainable or have to wait forever on some secret backorder list.  High prices also do a good job of inducing new suppliers and discouraging hoarding at the demand peak.

On the plus side, at least 223 is available now.  If only I could get 22lr...

I have heard of the owner of chimo's buying .22 blazer at walmart (10 to 20 bricks) and putting it on his shelf at the store for 10 bux more than che-mart.  It's a free country, and free enterprise, but I'm free not to buy there.

Can you substantiate this rumor?

I've had nothing but good dealings with Kaz over the years, though I do admit I haven't purchased anything there in the past six or eight years.

We have several douchebag dealers in Southcentral. I'd hate to see that Chimo's has gone over to the dark side.
