I am trying to find a way to import powder to Juneau.  I am calling a few freight companies (Span AK) today to see what they can do for me, but if there is anyone that has knowledge of a good way to import powder, I would appreciate any advice you could give me.  Don't know if powder is like ammo (200 pound pallet) and if group buys are the way to go, but if so, I am in for a group buy.

For people in Anchorage and Fairbanks - What are your powder prices like?

In Juneau, one pound (Rayco and Western Auto) costs between $29.00 - $33.00.  Don't know if I can get it here cheaper, but..........

Powder here in Sitka is around 230 dollars for 8 pound kegs. I am in for some, and would go to Juneau to pick it up. I was in contact with someone who had the powder I wanted for around 80 dollars a keg with cheap primers also, but I didn't want to deal with the hassle of a freight forwarder. Now with all of the crazies running around, it might have shot up in price.

You might want to check again, most places natiionally are out or have very low inventory on powder

Yep, I am well aware that is why I am really not too concerned at this point.

We use to order from powder valley and used Northland or Span Alaska as a forwarder

Have you tried outdoor headquarters? They used to beat rayco on components if they had them.

Not that hard to beat Rays prices but he has the most stuff in stock.

Yep, I live in Sitka but the only FFL here charges $50 per transfer, which I won't pay. Arranged to have some lowers sent to Outdoor Headquarters in Juneau, and got a phone call when they came in. I told him I will be there in a few weeks to pick them up, he already knew I was traveling to pick them up. "I may not have told you this when you first ordered the lowers, but we are closing next Wednesday so they have to be picked up by then." Of course he hadn't told me that, otherwise I would have went with Ray. I was planning on going to Juneau in a few weeks, but had to make a rush trip to pick them up. Blamed the internet business for putting him under.

I finally got around to calling freight forwarders and AML.  Span Alaska said they do not ship to individuals - has to be commercial use only.  AML does ship powder to Juneau however.  The cost is very reasonable - $57.00 for up to about 147 pounds. The person was not sure of the exact weight for the class that powder travels under, for 147 is approximate.  So, I am ordering powder from Powder Valley tomorrow.

The low cost of transportation makes me wonder why Rayco charges $35+ per pound of the powder I want.  I MAY be able to understand the $35 per 1000 small rifle primers I just paid, but was happy to get them somewhere at least.

F'n Juneau businesses.

I am pretty sure ray has had some of that powder as long as he has been in that building

He does stock more than anyone else but you pay for it
Thats why I was sorry to hear Joe shut his door. I always told people if Outdoor had it it would be a little cheaper

I think AML is who we used we we ordered from powder valley
