Anchorage rated a "top five emerging city for gays and lesbians." The Advocate, a national publication for gay and lesbian news, gave the designation to Anchorage along with Plano, Tx., Fort Wayne, Ind., Tulsa, Ok., and Jacksonville, Fl. in its April, 2008 issue.

The article is long, but you can find the details on Anchorage here. Calling Anchorage "subarctic" and "profoundly remote," writer Gary Gates, a senior research fellow at UCLA, used the 2006 U.S. Census estimates of the country's 100 largest cities and ranked those cities by the portion of same-sex couples (again, determined by Census data) among all couples and compared that to the figures from 2000.

"It's surprising just how gay Anchorage is," the magazine notes, citing LGBT-oriented hospitality businesses and tour groups. The article quotes Fairbanks resident Shelly Wozniak, 33, a publicist who lives Anchorage with her partner and children. "We don't live in a gayborhood," she says. "But my straight neighbors are fantastic people. We look out for each other and chat on the front lawns just like anybody else in America."

This doesn't surprise me at all...  I had a conversation like this a few months ago with a buddy of mine.  He recently quit his full-time job out at Kulis and moved his family to Anchor Point.  We've both noticed that this town is starting to be overrun by North Face Mountain Hardware wearing crunchy hippy fags that would like nothing better then to outlaw Carhartts and pumping your own gas.  Can I even says "fags" on this site anymore?  Ok, Homosexuals...

I won't be surprised if Alaska turns from "The Last Frontier" to "The Lost Frontier" in a few years.  Us gun toting, freedom loving, red blooded, Heterosexuals are a dying breed.

From my cold dead hands,

Just six percent of gays are thought to be born that way.

The other 94 percent were sucked into it.

Sorry, gents, it's the best contribution I can make today regarding this subject.

Actually, this reminds me of an incident in the 80s at a creek that is near Sheep Creek north of Anchorage. It's on a pull off before (or maybe after, my memory is sharper once I hit the streams again) the Sheep Creek Lodge.

A fishing buddy and I had stopped and got our Ugly Stiks and our tackle and were hiking in on a trail. We weren't talking, just walking. Not trying to be quiet, but apparently we were. About 100 yards in on the trail or so, I looked over to my left and there was a guy standing in the bushes with a stoned look on his face moaning. I glanced back at my fishing buddy and we both stared as we walked. Another five yards or so and we had moved past enough brush to see that another guy was sucking that guy's cock.

My buddy and I were both shocked. I picked up a stick and tossed it at them. Didn't hit them, but it was close. My buddy yelled out, "Go find a gay bath house! Geez, we're trying to fish, you queers."

Ever since that spot has been named Queer Creek. My wife calls it that. My kids call it that. I've even heard it called that by some other guys, too. Just walking by the spot is a miracle cure for appetite (and sex drive). I need brain bleach.

In Seward we get a boatload (literally a cruise ship) of lesbians that are part of a "Women's travel club".  One remarked about how tolerant we were to Gays and after a moment of thought I told her that we are not tolerant, we just don't care, your money is as green as anyone else's.

Same thing goes with how multicultural Anchorage is....we just don't give a rat's ass where you are from, you be you, I be me, and so long as we respect that then who give a flying turd?

Try forcing things though.....
